Oh? I thought they were a staple of farm parks and smaller wildlife parks?

The post by @ZooNews2024 to which you were replying explicitly said that Greater were a staple of farm parks and smaller wildlife parks and that Lesser were a major rarity :p as did posts by myself and @pipaluk amongst others.

So, a blip of reading comprehension :D

Thank you, that makes more sense. In my defence, I was heavily sleep deprived when I started this conversation- definitely a blip of a decent sleep schedule ;). Anyone have any idea as to the age of the rhea pls?

Oh? I thought they were a staple of farm parks and smaller wildlife parks? I may have just been conflating the two species in the past.

This is another thread which perhaps deserves a 'stop' of some kind, as you have been given the information you were lacking - plenty of times now.

I know, that was me acknowledging and explaining how I made the mistake.

I think that animal might have also left Drayton Manor's collection.
A shame as that collection is lacking in ungulates.

No they have all now gone to Africa alive

I am looking forward to seeing them in the new space at Africa Alive. It seems a good use of the Dell walkthrough area and the pond / marshy area now the Flamingos are not there. Though they did have water and a good sized paddock at Banham the new area looks good with the advantage of improved viewing too.

Members email that Amur tiger Kumi has moved to France as part of the breeding programme.

“On Tuesday, 11th February, Kumi traveled to his new home at Zoo de la Palmyre in southwestern France, where he’ll be joined by a potential mate as part of EAZA’s European breeding programme. This is a crucial step in ensuring the future of his species, and now, he’ll continue that legacy beyond Banham, playing a key role in stabilising the Amur tiger population.”

Four Maned wolf pups born:

Banham Zoo celebrates conservation milestone with birth of four maned wolf pups

Banham Zoo, in Norfolk, is celebrating a historic milestone as four maned wolf pups were born at the zoo in January 2025.

It's the first maned wolf birth there in 20 years.

The pups were born to first-time parents Enya and Thiago, and all four are thriving under their mother’s care.

Had a great visit today. Pretty much everything showed itself, including a couple of the wolf pups.

Penguin area remains closed due to Avian Flu, as does the Flamingo walk in area.
The Water Buffalo have returned to Watatunga, the sign says they have exciting plans for the paddock.
A lot of the species signage has been replaced with a new style, and there is a new map with the zoo split up into zones relating to the types of animals held or the location in the zoo, plus a miscellaneous zone. Every zone has a sign with a map of that zone and how it relates to surrounding zones. I have a put a copy in the media gallery:
