Korat Zoo Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo

@Flat headed cat, Korat Zoo maintains a pure-bred group of Thai brow-antlered deer?

What is the current status for the species in ZPO accredited institutions?
(I remember the old Dusit Zoo held Thai brow-antlered deer)
Zpot now There are 72 Thai brow-antlered deer 24.38.10 Ubon Ratchathani Zoo is the main breeding center This year we had 14 baby Thai brow-antlered deer born

How many crab-eating mongooses are there in Korat Zoo now?

0.0.2 Bengal tiger born this day
Mmmm, OK.

I do wish that in future they refocus on highly endangered Malayan and more ideally on critically endangered Indochinese tiger subspecies again (better also for the regional program focus both for ZPO - Thailand as well as SEAZA)!

It be good - anyway - to sort out the status of tigers and large Carnivora spaces in the ZPO zoos for local tiger subspecies and move away from doubtful pure-bred Bengals or hybrid/crossbreed white tigers in Thai zoos and other wildlife parks.

The Bengal tiger is only for show to tourists. We don't focus on it. We are interested in the Indochinese tiger as number 1Our parents are all old. We may have some good news with the Vietnam Zoo Association soon because we just made mou an agreement with them.

Yes, I know there is the public engagement with tigers in Thailand (which for part is well and good as long as baseline husbandry guidelines are observed and physical separation between zoo visiting public and the wild animal exhibits are maintained).

The MOU with Vietnam Zoo Association is a great development. Slowly, but surely things are moving on the S.E. Asia and IndoChina zoo connectivity and animal exchange / knowledge transfer front. I am quite continent the ZPO and Vietnam Zoo Association can pull this one off on Indochinese tigers. It would also be possible to create an in situ component with the succesfull Thai in situ conservation program. The species is making a resurgence in Thailand thanks to very good management and highly scientific approach to in situ conservation, habitat restoration and protected area management.

Red-headed vultures are paired and close to laying eggs.
That is some of the best breeding news for the season 2024/25 at Korat Zoo! Are you talking of one or more pairs?

I assume that locally and through ZPO contacts are being cemented with Parco Natura Viva, Bussolengo in Italy for more breeding (now unrelated) breeding stock. I would have to check with local Zoochatters and the zoo how many breeding stock they hold at the moment. As an indication on Zootierliste.de in 2021: 4.7.2!

Tierpark - Berlin-Friedichsfelde in Germany has recently acquired a pair for creating a future breeding pair. In the USA, the World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park, Missouri (a collection more focussed and specialised on birds) owns a lone 1.0 (named: Brahma). This male is on loan from Palm Beach Zoo in Loxahatchee, Florida! No other known red-headed vultures are held in public zoos.

A Giant vulture chick has hatched:

Thailand's first successful hatching of giant vulture at Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo | Thai PBS World : The latest Thai news in English, News Headlines, World News and News Broadcasts in both Thai and English. We bring Thailand to the world

Thailand’s Nakhon Ratchasima zoo has successfully hatched the first giant vulture chick in captivity since the critically rare bird vanished from the wild in the country about 30 years ago. It is the world’s second chick to hatch in captivity.
What's the Giant Vulture ?
I don't know the Latin name for this species, whose "common" name may be ambiguous.
