A commendable expeditious project to ensure a cub with no good prospects - and probably genetically important to the population - was rescued and got a surrogate mum across the country.Two cubs were born initially, one died shortly after birth. The mother's milk ended up drying up, so staff pulled the cub and have had it on a bottle while searching for an appropriately aged litter to foster it to.
They found out that Cincinnati had a mama cheetah with two cubs only a day younger than the "orphaned" cub. A private piloting service with an eye towards supporting conservation offered to fly a staff member and the cub to Cincinnati for free. Cub was successfully fostered into the Cincinnati litter.

The cub being accepted into the new family is testament to apt husbandry experience. Well done!
On August 28th, the zoo announced they acquired 2 barn owls from the Hawk Creek Wildlife Center in New York which are now on display in the Barnyard section of the Safari Village.
