Nasu animal kingdom

Nasu Animal Kingdom has obtained 2.0 Hamilton’s turtles “Nan” (or Naan) and “Chapati”. Their origins aren’t mentioned but they both hatched in May 2012 (Naan on the 27, Chapati on the 28th). The zoo stated that these animals are kept for display and raising awareness, so a potential mate probably won’t come anytime soon.

Nasu Animal Kingdom has obtained great blue turacos and Madagascar crested ibises. The birds will be kept in the “WETLAND” exhibit, which is why the exhibition of lemurs will be suspended for a while. The turacos are already on exhibit while the ibises will be on display next week. Amongst JAZA facilities Ueno is the only other zoo that keeps. Madagascar crested ibis. The great blue turacos are a returning species to JAZA.

Where did they obtain the great blue turacos and ibises?

Saitama Childrens Zoo also keep Madagascar ibises

The park did not explain the origin of the birds.

Nasu’s announcement did not say anything about Saitama being a holder of Madagascar crested ibises.

On another note. Why make two separate posts to reply for the same post? You could have edited your first post, within an hour after posting it, instead of making two posts.

Didn’t think about that, thanks. Also, heres the link to SCZ's page of the Madagascar Crested Ibis: Madagaka Truki | Saitama Children's Animal Nature Park | Saitama Prefectural Parks and Green Space Association

1.1 Amur leopard cats which are not of the Tsushima locale have arrived to the park. The origins of the animals is not brought up.
One of the cats “Sago” will be sent to Okinawa. I am not sure what has happened to the other individual.

Nasu will be recieving 1.0 Kario and 0.1 Hitoe from Higashiyama zoo. The cats are born tbis gear but are from different litters.

According to a regular visitor of Nasu, two more Madagascar crested ibises have recently been added, making a total of four at Nasu. Since this information is not from an official source, it may not be accurate. The origin of the original two birds is still unknown, but it is possible that Ueno transferred all of its Madagascar ibises to Nasu.

Recently, several woodchucks have joined the kingdom. Starting tomorrow, construction will begin to replace the beaver exhibit in the Wolf Hills area with a new woodchuck exhibit.
Wonderful additions. Woodchucks/groundhogs are usually found in animal cafe type places in Japan so Nasu obtaining them is great. I do hope the park has plans to mix them with the North American porcupines.

I can’t stop gushing over the groundhogs, but seeing this video is concerning since the animals (or at least one of them) are quite fat. The zoo should really go for a great running space or a better diet.

Damn, how unfortunate .... how did that happen? An otter transfer seems not like something too complicated nor "dangerous" to the health of the animal on transfer! Any obduction results known?
Yes, transportation of otters seem to be less risky compared to other animals.
It seems that he deceased by some kind of sudden cardiovascular failure, but details are not known yet.

He was transported in a car with an expert staff and a vet, so the transportation itself looks fine.

Lets wait for the details.

The two animals will be on exhibit starting from 22 February. Another notice said that the cats will be in a new/expanded enclosure.

On other news the park said that their pallas cats might get exhibited less often due to their old age. Males Bol and Lev are already off exhibit due to treatment.

The zoo uploaded pictures of the conversion process of one of the beaver enclosures to the groundhog enclosure. The enclosure does look great with ample amounts of dirt for the groundhogs to dig. Too bad the enclosure has a ceiling and doesn’t look like it can have climbing structures for porcupines, so chances are they won’t be mixed.

The 1.4 groundhogs will on display on April 17. The animals are named Gyoza (male), Ichigo, Yuba and Kanpyo (females).

Something I found interesting is that the map of the park does not list the porcupines near the gift shop or anywhere at all. The porcupines are still in the park as I found on twitter, so them not being listed on the map is quite odd. They aren’t listed in the exhibit page either. I hope the porcupines get to be in a more interesting enclosure soon.
