ZooParc de Beauval Zooparc de Beauval news 2025

A bit of news from Beauval, where I was today :
  • I attended the bird training session, half a dozen birds were displayed : 1 Great Horned Owl (new species for me in Beauval !), 2 Crested Caracaras, 1 Palm-nut Vulture and 2 Bald Eagles ;
  • there's new signage about the European Roller (obviously not seen !) near the Bird Theatre, I hope to see this species this year... ;
  • I've seen a baby Lesser Kudu ;
  • the Siberian Eagle-Owls have been replaced by 2 Indian Eagle-Owls in the Bird of prey quarters near the Bird House ;
  • the old Porcupine enclosure is being demolished ;
  • the central part of the Zoo (near the restaurant "Le Tropical") is closed for works during all the month of January (but we can see all the animals).

Do you mean in an aviary or as a species that will be flown on the show?
Normally all the species displayed in the bird show can be only seen in this show.
One can get a glance to the aviaries in the backstage, but not visit them except perhaps in some "keeper of a day" sessions, assuming that the program of these sessions changes every year.
Virtually all these species are off-show in winter.

That's what surprised me, I have never heard of rollers in bird shows.

The new enclosure for various African small mammals (near the Elephant house) will have the name of "Les Rocs de Dodoma" ("Dodoma Rocks", after the name of a Tanzanian town), as confirmed on promotional documents of the zoo.
It will host Rock Hyraxes, Kirk's Dik-diks, Mongooses (much probably the African Dwarf ones) and Porcupines (what species ?).
