Does a new plan for the area already exist or is the old planning document and map posted up here earlier with African species being able to transfer to neighbouring exhibitry still largely valid).
BTW: I am glad the Asiatic elephants are leaving Perth Zoo as it never has been the best marriage for each. Personally, I would go and vouch for an updated Asian section with some additional Asian species than just Sumatran tiger, all the Asian species up north-east side of the zoo (sun bear, gibbons, otters and Komodo dragons) orang utans (an outlier now with the Asiatic elephant exhibit effectively emptied....! I was specifically thinking of Asian rhino and some deer species. Ideally, I would love to see Malayan tapir also ....., but that episode was thoroughly screwed with the manner of tapir husbandry and accomodation features in Australasian zoos.... (well enough of that!).
I would have preferred to see that bull Putra Mas had moved much earlier (the entire musth period could have been easily avoided - these cycles are also a bad predictable and certainly in a long established bull at Perth Zoo rn) ..., but realise their logistics were off at Monarto (allthough not insurmontable in my personal opinion ...).
BTW: For what it is worth I do feel Australasian elephant management is far too cautious with their approach to animal transfers, inter-birth intervals and generally adopting more modern state of the art best practice in elephant management and husbandry.
