Today I was in Burgers Zoo and asked a guide if the catbirds are gone because they are no longer on the info sign. She indicated that there was just one left and that it was still there. However at some point it will be gone because they obviously can't breed anymore. True or not, that's the info she gave me. Many birds showed themselves well today. For example the paradise tanager which I do not see very often. The green iguana was also clearly visible on a rock.
I did indeed see a catbird today, glad they are still around for a bit longer.
The green iguana is now temporarily behind the scenes according to a guide.
Are they back to one iguana? I thought Burgers' received new iguanas from Overloon a little while back, but I've never seen any other iguana than the really big one with the underbite
Those small ones have passed away, so yes down to 1 again.

I wish you luck on a sunday. I usually go on Thursdays when it's really calm and I barely see them. For a while they had their own spot near the Ocean entrance, then I saw them a few times above the Leaf turtle enclosure. At this point I haven't seen them in a while.
Most recently I've heard of them hanging out near the waterfall, but even that was a few months back
I saw her near the feeder behind the leaf turtle enclosure shortly after opening. Another "good" spot can be in the area surrounding the Seba's short-tailed bat cave and the small adventure trail where you have to cross a stream twice. It can also be worth checking the feeder located at the trail AP4:
But the catbird is one of the hardest birds to see currently.
In general it pays to spend the first hour after opening in the Bush, bird activity tends to be highest then.
Walsrode has re-identified their white-winged doves (Zenaida asiatica) as West Peruvian dove (Zenaida meloda) and apparently this is true for the whole European population according to a private breeder. Z. meloda used to be treated as a subspecies of Z. asiatica, but is clearly distinct genetically, morphologically and easily distinguished by sound.
One of the main differences between these species is their song. The white-winged doves on Xeno-Canto sound completely different compared to the birds Burgers' Zoo has. But the Burgers' Zoo doves sound very much like West Peruvian doves. So I am confident that we should call them like that.

This week I was at Burgers zoo and saw the catbird again. I often see this bird near the small path that starts opposite the rope bridge (AP4). Coincidentally, a caretaker just arrived and indicated that there are still two females in the bush. So two after all and not one as a volunteer indicated the other day.
Two male Coppery titis will be added to the Mangrove dome at some point in the near future. Additionally, Scaled pigeons have also been released in the Mangrove, a beautiful species that is only seen in three other zoos in Europe (a few years ago only in Walsrode, now also in Wilhelmina and Plzen, along with Burgers' of course)
