ZooChat Planet Zoo Global Challenge 2025

  • Is For the Wildlife a nature center as I could only find information that they are an animal hospital so I don't know yet if they could be considered an eligible facility
  • Wild animals don't count
  • The donkey and the animals from Raman Gat don't count as you didn't see the animals during Zoo hours within the Zoo
  • Where did you see the Emu?
  • I couldn't really find any information about Gan Hai, do you have any sources for it? I found out that it was a Zoo but I couldn't find anything else
  • Right now, you have 31 animals but that is subject to change
Like I wrote, Zebra and Wildebeest were seen in Jerusalem as well, and the emu is mentioning Gan Hai
The otter and fox are permanent animals there and the badger was cared on that day so I think it can be counted

What is Gan Hai, I can't find any reliable sources about it. I think that only the otters and foxes can be counted though

Thanks for the clarification, you now have a total of 34 eligible animals which narrowly puts you at 2nd place. The Old World Swallowtail doesn't count as like I mentioned in the rules (1st post in this thread), wild animals won't count

I think even for temporarily, the fact that it was held there is like an animal being presented for a short time in a normal zoo, so I think the badger can be reconsidered

I'll let this be up to consideration for the entire Zoochat Community so ANY Zoochat member can state their claim on the eligibility so I will make my decision a week from now (for me) on 10/8

Hi Mog, I've read your messages, and I am happy to be at your own discretion for what counts and what doesn't. Since I am already keeping track of this "challenge" on my own page, I'm just posting it all here simultaneously even if my stipulations are different from your own. Happy for you to deduct points however you see fit (for wild species or facilities that don't count). Nevertheless, happy you're organizing this for the year of 2025, and happy to see other people participating! I love the fact that other people too are counted in the grand total, would be fun if we are all able to get 100% of the roster!

The elephant at Buttonwood Park Zoo isn't an Indian so it doesn't count and the Mute Swan is wild so it doesn't count. So you have 39 animals!

I couldn't really find proof of where the binturong is. What exhibit is it in? Right now, you have 25 animals, possibly 26 animals soon..

@AmazonHippo : Can you add the dates and what animals were seen on the show?

And do you have a pic of the cockroach?

A RULE I FORGOT TO MENTION WAS:

11: If there is any lying in what you saw or blatant mistakes (that members have to constantly remind you about), there can be disqualification after 3 strikes

I'll let this be up to consideration for the entire Zoochat Community so ANY Zoochat member can state their claim on the eligibility so I will make my decision a week from now (for me) on 10/8
For some reason, I gave the wrong date but after some thought, I decided this wouldn't count

I haven't found proof yet on this, so @AmazonHippo currently has 0 animals, likely more

Current Scores:
  1. @Leaf Productions - 40+ species (he hasn't updated me on his new animals yet)
  2. @Tea Rex - 35 species
  3. @Hugo28 - 33 species
  4. @MOG2012 - 30 species
  5. @iluvwhales - 25 species
  6. @CarnotaurusSastrei - 3 species
  7. @AmazonHippo - 0+ species ( see why above)
  8. @peruvianbirdie - 1 species

1 I believe both Gemsbok and Sable Antelope are at Chester Zoo as at the path toward the islands they let you peek into Heart of Africa which I saw the Gemsbok in a seperate paddock and Sable Antelope in with the zebra
2 Red-eyed tree frogs are as of January 24th part of Spirit of the Jaguar
3 I believe I must have put the Brown Snake and Ibex in accidentally as they are clearly not part of Chester Zoo
4 They hold the capuchins behind the scenes as I went on an experience on my trip

Coquerel's Sifaka Chester Zoo 26/1/2025
Spectacled Bear Chester Zoo 26/1/2025
Kirk's Dik-Dik Chester and Hamerton Zoo 26/1/2025; 4/1/2025
At Chester Zoo, they have Sunda Gharial (also known as the False Gharial), not the Indian Gharial (the eligible species). I couldn't really find any evidence about the giant burrowing cockroach and the Mexican Red knee tarantula present there.
At Chester, there was nothing I could find about the tree frogs present. At Hamerton, the only skink I discovered that was present was Gidgee skink, not blue-tongued.
  • You have to see the animal via normal public access during normal public opening hours in public zoological collections, aquariums, museums, public park displays, etc. so not in the wild, expos, farms, pet stories, private facilities, etc.
Based on this rule, the capuchin and the brown snake don't count as they were seen behind the scenes (were any other animals exclusively seen behind the scenes?) Were they public exhibiting the sable antelope, ostrich, and gembok or did you see them from afar, behind the scenes. If behind the scenes they don't count. (were any other animals exclusively seen this way?)

Nevertheless, you've seen an impressive total of 48 Planet Zoo animals, putting you at first place
