Thought I would follow up on my recent post..... 1.0 Sombar (Red panda) was in the old ring tailed lemur exhibit in the primate trail due to a recent vet visit which will require him to rest for quite a lot of time.... Not sure exactly why but I was told he was not on display on his tree exhibit for a while as he was hanging around on the ground not being his usual self and then he was taken to the vet and given a smaller area to recover :)

Since the signage makes reference to the red panda recovering from an injury, it sounds like it’s something that would be exacerbated by climbing high branches e.g. abdominal surgery that’s required stitches.

Depending when he sustained the injury, this may tie in with the information you were given about him not breeding due to his age, which didn’t otherwise didn’t add up without an accompanying reason e.g. ill health; or alternatively, sufficient genetic representation.

@Johnpaul21 what exhibit is the old Ring tailed lemur exhibit and was it on the map that the red panda was in the Primate trail?

@ramsayi I hope you enjoy your visit if you do go can you please upload a picture of the Perth zoo map on this thread? Or can you tell me is the Red Panda in the Primate trail is on the map:)
 
I know it might but I collect every Perth zoo map since 2022 and if it was I will ask my Uncle to get it for me so when I come back to Perth

i'll have a look for you :) but as jambo said , i don't think they will have it for a change that isnt long term, however there will likley be a new map in a week and a bits time because:

Zoorassic park
Starting Monday March 31st perth zoo will have zoorassic park
Members preview 30th of March

i would love to go see them on 'opening' week but of corse thats when i'm in adelaide lol
 
That’s sound really exciting my Brother love Dinosaurs so I will probably go with him if you want I can try send you photos

I wonder where the prehistoric trail will be? Oh I just remembered I will still be in India but I will be back by the 3 I think.

Yeah that would make sense maybe it would start on the lawn and end at were the White Cheeked Gibbons Are

It was previously mentioned Permai’s exhibit would be used to house animatronic dinosaurs, so presumably the trail will centre around the her old exhibit.

The main lawn has also been used in previous years to exhibit large dinosaurs like an 18 metre long Argentinosaurus; and a six metre Tyrannosaurus rex.

my guess is it will go from the lawn, into rainforest retreat then to permais exhibit

I saw the set up today!
It appears to be only in the old elephant area, part of the fence is down and a path has been made on the amphitheatre side, on the side with the pool all I saw was a ‘Dino’s comming soon’ crate , the pool also was roped off with a sign (couldn’t read it from viewing platform) Wich leads me to believe up untill there will be the dinos

I’ll definitely be going when I get back from my trip cause I wanna walk in the old elephant enclosure lol

So we will be able to walk into Permai old exhibit ? That would be quite interesting because Puta Mas is so close to her exhibit.

Yup , it looks like they will have it so you can’t go near the pool (so not near Putra Mas)
My guess is the trex might block the path hence why I only saw a rope with a sign blocking off the pool/ area near putra mas
