Tennōji Zoo Osaka Zoo News

I have said this many times already but…

I know that exceptions were brought up, but unless any if these countries suddenly get EAZA members than no EAZA animals will be arriving to Japan anytime soon. I argue a better way is to collect gametes and tissues for a frozen zoo in Japan that could later be brought to the Europe for breeding.

Dear @PossumRoach, I know ... please relax! For what it is worth: I remain firmly convinced the import/export barriers that exist globally are for the most part infuriatingly superfluous, even downright hypocritical or ignorant of the real zoonotic concerns and ignore recent advances in veterinary health and possible/potential and actual control systems and/or successful treatments of zoonotic disease ... should be broken and changed to accommodate and enable free exotic animal and plant exchanges between different Continents.

EAZA has "issues" with good parts of Africa and/or Asia. AZA/ZAA-US has "issues" with imports to-fro Europe + some exports to Europe. ZAA has "issues" with imports/exports ex Asia and major parts of Africa. I do think/feel most of the concerns involved and/or reasons cited are total " "balloney" and "hogwash".

Why are you assuming that I was irritated? Now assuming my feelings, that’s irritating.

I have also brought up the hypocrisy of bio security laws before and I do agree that they are baloney. But to keep insisting that primates get brought into Japan from Europe after the fact that the primate import regulations has been just sounds… naive and it’s just wishful thinking. The law is still there despite how bs it is and it won’t be going anytime soon.

Another problem is that most JAZA zoos operate with a government funding and they don’t have enough resources to import animals subjected to excessive bio security measures. They are also not in the privilege to preoccupy themselves with chimpanzee subspecies.

I hope you think this through and wont dismiss my point as a “tit for tat” like you did some time back.

Apologies for assuming ....! Sometimes it is hard to discipher what is meant when someone is not in front of you. I happily agree and see the validity of all your points made here.

And no it is never tit for tat. I love these arguments and getting to the bare bones of things. I appreciate your perspectives and what you bring to the table is always valued, insightful, thought provoking and adding lots of value. Thank you for your sharing...!

Thank you for an amazing effort!
This is the image from my friend who has been to Osaka last week and he sent me this image stating that this Chinese alligator is from Shanghai. Does anyone know where in Shanghai is this Chinese alligator from?

The zoo has obtained 1.2 Indochinese green peafowl. The birds are named Karash(0.1), Aquarius (0.1), and Dakara (1.0). The animals are sourced from Nasu World Monkey Park, which apparently has an ambitious plan to breed pure subspecific peafowl. I say apparently because NWMP is anything but a zoo that takes ethics and conservation seriously, so it’s surprising to see it assume such a serious goal coming from terrible park as NWMP.

A past Facebook post from NWMP states that the Green Peafowls were imported from Thailand in 2021. 26 reactions | 先月タイからモンパーにやって来た #マクジャク です お尻のふわふわの羽がかわいいですよね! 新しい環境に慣れてきたかな、、? #那須ワールドモンキーパーク #ベリーグッドローカルとちぎ | 那須ワールドモンキーパーク

Probably the zoo imported the animals from a zoo or breeder in Thailand that was keeping the pure subspecies.
