They have four designated bachelor facilities, so there's quite a few options.Who are the possible bulls?
I do agree Gandhi is a chance however both his paternal/maternal lines are growing representation wise with quite successful breeding from the Irma/Chang lines lately. On top of the bachelor groups there are also two bulls in a potential breeding situation. I would not exclude that they move Gandhi from Palmyre. He had his time in a bachelor group and after Alix' death he is left with two old cows, so his genes would be wasted over there.
Out of the bachelor groups I think Yoe Ma has good chances since they have already moved Ananda from there. Speaking against Yoe Ma is his past from Emmen, more than well represented genes in the world of bulls... Sang Raja could be but he has already had enough offspring actually (e.g. see the two at La Taniere).
Could the bull Upali at Le Pal be an option? I know he has no current offspring living at Le Pal but Nina could perhaps be pregnant.
I think her stay at Leipzig was never a happy one ..., she did not integrate well into older family lines (once the Kewa group was received from Tierpark Berlin ... her days were actually a bit numbered ... having to cope living within a functioning matriarchal herd around KewaRani needsto leave Leipzig because she cant be together with the Kewa family anymore, Kewa and Astra are aggressive against her. I don’t think Temi is moving to Leipzig because Leipzig has enough females and 2 female calves.
They will be receiving a bull from a zoo in France soon.Does anyone know if a bull is coming to Amersfort for Indra and Kina? They are the only cohort and needs to continue building their own family!
I believe a Radza son would just be what the doctor ordered for the Australian breeding population carrying the gene for those huge tusks. They have four designated bachelor facilities, so there's quite a few options.
These six are possibilities:
At Zoo De Maubeuge:
1.0 Yoe Ma (04/09/2008) Radza x Mingalar Oo
1.0 Tom (19/03/2014) Chang x Nina
At La Taniere:
1.0 Rajendra (08/04/2011) Sang Raja x Tong Koon
1.0 Kitai (08/06/2014) Sang Raja x Tong Koon
At Point Scarff:
1.0 Sang Raja (24/03/1999) Chawang x Sri Nandong
1.0 La Min Kyaw (15/03/2016) Bindu x Shu Thu Zar
I'd like to see Sang Raja, or potentially one of his sons moved into a breeding situation soon. Out of the six males, those three bulls are the most valuable.
I would favour Thai origins elephants with a look at a potential in situ conservation and rehabilitation project. Feel good factor at maximum level.I believe a Radza son would just be what the doctor ordered for the Australian breeding population carrying the gene for those huge tusks.![]()
They have already met the Elephants in MunichRani and her daughter Savani have successfully been transferred to Hellabrunn

I just discovered that the Hannover zoo planned to stop housing a breeding herd of elephants and switch to bachelors back in 2021. Is that still the plan for now?

That makes total sense. I think they also renovated the facility to add a much bigger space for multi generationals.I am not quite sure if they will add a bachelor group, but they will for sure keep their current group as non breeders. Matriarch Manari is (same as Sayang in Pairi Daiza) Bornean elephant and their offspring hybrids - they are taken out of breeding by the EEP. I think same applies for the Sumatran elephants in Madrid.
Wow, that's very surprising news - especially considering Ta Wan's age. He would've been six years of age at the time of their conception which is very unusual. It's also surprising that he's somehow managed to mate Farina who's not a short cow at all.Pairi Daiza announced in its newsletter that 22-year-old Farina and 6-year-old Luna are pregnant. These pregnancies came as a surprise, as there was no breeding recommendation for either of them. The even bigger surprise is that the father is 7-year-old Ta Wan, who moved to Augsburg last year. He is related to both cows.
