Singapore Zoo Singapore Zoo News 2025

Hi guys this may be slightly unrelated, but I’m currently 17 and I plan to work at the zoo in the future. I’m particularly interested in reptiles and amphibians and I’m wondering if zookeepers or animal keepers are allowed to choose their desired section. What are the specific qualifications to work at the zoo? And also just out of curiosity, what do the people at Reptopia do? They have a really cool science lab looking room but until today I’m still unsure what they actually do in there. Thanks

If they hire you as a reptile keeper I doubt you'll work with mammals, unless for section you mean "part of the zoo", in which case it's either stated in the job vacancy or you'd have to ask at the job meeting.

Usually degrees or diplomas in animal husbandry or biology/natural sciences or related field and prior experience, again you should find these informations in the job vacancy description.

Last time I checked the EAZA job vacancies and MANDAI vacancies they were looking for a position that would work with reptiles - Assistant Curator for Herpetology - although it seems they have removed the position from the Mandai website the EAZA vacancy post still stands.
You could check out other vacancies on the Mandai vacancies page to see the requirements to work with animals.

ahh I see, thanks for the clarification :D working at the zoo seems really fun

The signages at the Proboscis monkey exhibit has been updated with the muntjac signage in particular being rather intriguing, labelling their muntjac as muntiacus vaginalis rather than muntiacus muntjac. Not sure myself if Mandai keeps the former.

An update that will be more of interesr to regular visitors - the Zoo entrance is undergoing remodelling (again). The turnstiles have been tenporarily relocated to where the interim gift shop used to be. The small food court sans KFC has closed (for good i believe). For now alternative food options are at the Courtyard restaurant in basement 1 and Dining Alley. The new Food Village food court located between the Zoo and Night Safari entrances should be ready by year's end or early next year.

a couple of updates on today's trip:
  1. about half of the Treetops Trail boardwalk is barricaded off, starting from its main entrance
  2. more vegetation has been added to the indoor Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo exhibit, making it considerably more lush
  3. the Blue Tree Monitor is back on display. he's taken over the small exhibit by the Komodo Dragon enclosure
  4. the Indian Star Tortoise exhibit at Tortoise Shellter is empty

The Philippine crocodile exhibit has begun its trial opening today. Right now the avairy opening times are not so frequent. Today's opening times were 10 to 11 and 1.30 to 4.30
according to a keeper, the aviary has started these trial openings last week.

additionally the Hill Mynahs and Pied Imperial Pigeons aren't planned to be released into the exhibit anytime soon, but hopefully by the next couple of months

The trial openings from this week onwards are going to be volunteer supervised so I guess thats the "new part".

How many (number / sex / age) Philippine crocodiles do they have? Are they Luzon or Mindanao origins?
