Burgers' Zoo Burgers' Zoo news 2025

Being in the Zoo yesterday. It feelt kinda strangee having such a large zoo, with such a greatbird colection. That with the demolition of the birdhouse, that it has not a single parrot species. They could really relase one, even some kind of smal parakeet in the bush

I always wonder why they put not more effort into this restaurant. It has (had) a nice sonoran-mexican theme, but was mostly closed when I visited it (By the way: Was it ever open as a restaurant/cantina, not only as a refreshment point with beverages/coffee?). However, it would be great when they transform it into an exhibit with/for a NEW desert species.

When i was researching for my 40th birthdayparty. You could book the restaurant and the area around it for a BBQ.

I do hope for a exhibit indeed and when the are going to spruce up the Desert i also hope they will find a new species for the former bobcat exhibit

Lucky you:)

And yes, the former bobcat exhibit is also in need for a new resident. Maybe Kit fox ....

Oh no the BBQ was a bit out of my budget....It ended up being an 80's party in the cantina of my local sportsteam

I have only ever known the Desert restaurant open once in thirteen visits between 2006 and 2025. I once ate a pretty nice taco there.

Personally I think the "village" area could be a nice place to display the desert tortoise they have - but you can't really see - in the former lynx exhibit, and perhaps some other reptiles like box turtles.

Is it kot a bit shady for reptiles?

I was talking about the fromer bobcat area
that area all the way to the ringtail cave should get a rework anyways. Its too rocky and narrow. Some greenery should do magic there. and with the amount of territorial birds in the desert a new nestingspot would definitely be welcomed.

Same with that cave, it adds nothing but a second ringtail enclosure. Adding some other terrariums and/or enclosure would give reasons not to skip that route in the current situation.

Maybe Ocelots would be a good fit? They would bring much Potential for education about their wide range that does reach into the North American deserts, which also is something that isn‘t really known here. I at least always associate them with the South American rainforest.

Hell no. The bobcat exhibit was one of the worst exhibits in the whole zoo. Way too smal for any cat.

But couldn‘t the renovation to the desert make a suitable, bigger exhibit possible?
Don‘t get me wrong, I also think that the former Bobcat exhibit is way to small.

I had the same idea, but refused it for the same reason @GiratinalsGod mentioned it. However, if an extension of the old exhibit would be possible, a return of the bobcats seems to be another option.

It is specifically the village/cantina area of the Desert that will be renovated. But that plaza is still used quite often by visitors so I really don't think they're gonna get rid of that whole area.

Personally, I think they're either going to re-open the Cantina area (I've never seen it open), or they're going to get rid of the restaurant bit and replace it with one or a few new terrariums, or even an open-topped reptile enclosure.

There's multiple Desert reptiles behind the scenes (at least Desert tortoise and Side-blotched lizard), and quite a few more options to add (Chuckwalla, Desert iguana, Zebra-tailed lizard). Burgers' Zoo in general has a bit of a lack in herps (17 species of herps, 8 of which are rarely seen by the general public) so it would be a good opportunity to add more.

Besides, there's not that many mammals available to add in the Desert
