Yes they have, at least for a couple of weeks but this is first official announcement
I think they wanted a bull currently in a bachelor facility in France like Maubege, Pont Scorff, La Taniere, or Tourparc. But i could be wrong. I think it's time for upali to move to another facility soon anyways.Amersfoort Zoo said not too long ago they are expecting a bull from France. I actually suspected Upali from Le Pal, maybe I was right.
I thought Sibu was going to be transferred to Safari Madrid to play the role of a bachelor mentor bullSibu is now also apparently slated to head to Le Pal in Frace at some point within the next year (which of course means we will most likely see Upali head elsewhere as well).
That might have been the case but plans can change for all sorts of reasons. Hopefully we will find out more soon enough either before or after a transport.I think they wanted a bull currently in a bachelor facility in France like Maubege, Pont Scorff, La Taniere, or Tourparc. Anyhow, I hope Upali still has reproductive potential left. He really nailed it with millions of calves at dublin, but probably sired one at Le Pal to my knowledge. That might have been the case but plans can change for all sorts of reasons. Indeed, he has sired only one calf with Nina, and sired several calves while at Dublin.Anyhow, I hope Upali still has reproductive potential left. He really nailed it with millions of calves at dublin, but probably sired one at Le Pal to my knowledge.
I honestly feel bewildered to why that is. HmmmmmIndeed, he has sired only one calf with Nina, and sired several calves while at Dublin.
Hopefully all will be well with the final birth, she is quite young. It is a beautiful sight to watch fhe herd gather and welcome the baby.
Luna is next. This is good experience for her as she’s a first time mother.

Europe does not need more bulls, especially more inbred ones. An inbred female, while definitely still frustrating, would likely still receive reccomendations to an unrelated male assuming she is healthy. Inbreeding doesn't always have huge effects in elephants.they haven’t said when she’s due. Hopefully not until 2026. That will allow her to mature a bit.
I hate to say this but I hope it’s a bull. So he could stay in bachelor holdings. I am not sure the SSP will make any recommendations on breeding the calf is a female? Does anyone have feedback on that?

Good point as well, but even in that case a non-breeding cow that is situated into a matrilineal group would still have more value than an inbred bull. It's also arguable that she could still be bred despite her inbred status, it has happened before. There's an example of such a female in NA (Though that female has been unable to maintain a pregnancy, potentially due internal health issues that are undisclosed).Unlikely as long as the matriline isn't in danger if this one cow doesn't breed.
Hurray, great to welcome a new bull in Amersfoort. Hopefully Maung Htoo will spread joy around and bring some calves into the herd.In Amersfoort Zoo asian elephant bull Maung Htoo from Touroparc zoo has arrived.

I'm interested to read Maung Htoo is one of Naing Thein's sons from Emmen. It appears even though Naing Thein sired a lot of calves, his genes are not being passed down to a new genaration by his many sons! (His daughters did have calves)
But I'm also surprised so many of the Dutch elephants are related in one way or another. Either through Ramon and his son Timber or Naing Thein, his daughters and Maung Htoo. A Maung Htoo x Kina calf would tie everyone's genetics together.
I'm just interested and not trying to ask overly critical questions here (as I definitely lack the knowledge to do that) but is there a reason why the Dutch elephant lines keep being matched up?
