Rescues from war zones aren’t going to be more cost-effective than acquiring animals from established collections in countries like France or Germany.
This is just NOT true.
The media will cover 'rescues' and the public will donate to them in large amounts.
Neither will do so in anywhere near the same way, if at all, for standard 'conservation' based zoo-to-zoo moves.
It may be even that airlines or carriers will contribute to a 'rescue' flight/move too, whereas both charge a huge premium for conservation moves.
Hence the fondness for 'rescues' over true conservation-breeding moves. Just look at the bear enclosures and additions in the UK done over the past few years. All except one with zero conservation benefit.
