Favourite Novels

Hello everyone,
I decided to create this thread so bookworms like myself can tell everyone on ZooChat about their favourite novels.

Mine are as follows: the 'DI Jack Frost' series about a fowl-mouthed police officer fighting crime and his boss (by R. D. Wingfield); 'The Island of Doctor Moreau' about a man shipwrecked on an island who discovers a doctor doing sinister experiments and a large number of beast-like creatures (by H. G. Wells) and the 'Series of Unfortunate Events' about three orphans desperately trying to escape from an evil Count (by Lemony Snickets).

:)

If you like Frost, you probably also like the series? I do, but that's also because I really like british crime series, like lewis.

I mostly read novels from stephen king, arthur c. clarke, dan simmons, greg bear, clive cussler, john grisham, preston & child, and last but certainly not least, michael crichton.

Love star wars

That isn't a novel;)

I like The Lost World by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton (not too keen on the follow-up book though).

Also Angels and Demons and Da Vinci Code have kept me interested longer than a lot of other books have.

I don't read much but I though the Da Vinci code was brilliant. I used to think Harry Potter was great, but does anyone else think it is getting rediculously tedious now?

I love reading, Lord of the rings books are my favourite. However I think the eagles series by Simon Scarrow to be enjoyable, also the Harry Potter books were good.

Actually it is!!! all the star wars films have been produced as books, but star wars first came to print as the adventures of luke skywalker in 1976.

Deception point by Dan Brown is a great book, anything by Terry Pratchett and Bill Bryson are also worth a look :)

All books of dan brown are great, especially angels and demons ( this one's better than the da vinci code), his only problem is that the plots are the same. The bad guy is always the one who is most reliable to the main character(s).

My favs are Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and most books by Michael Crichton and Wilbur Smith

My favourite authors are Friedrich Nietzsche (thus spoke zarathustra is my all time favourite book , i must have read it over a 100 times) , Dostoevsky , Jean paul Satre , gabriel garcia Marquez , Mario Vargas llosa , Tomas Borges , Carlos fuentes , Octavio paz , Desmond Morris , Tolkien and many more

I still love Harry Potter but I see what you mean, I can't decide whether the books are changing or I am. :)

I could seriously read anything and I can never really pick a favorite genre because I like them all. And picking a favorite book is hard as well but among my favorites are Life of Pi (a must for every zoo lover, even if you just read the first couple of chapters), The Outsider and Fight Club (Yes, it was a book first). Also, I can't help but like some of Roald Dahl's short stories. Right now I'm reading a book called Dark Star Safari about a guy travelling from Cairo to Capetown.

The hobbit, Lord of the Rings, James Herriot series, Morse, Travelling music by Neil Peart and the inevitable Harry potter series....

However, i did read a very intresting book recently called "The Medici Giraffe" By Marina Belozerskaya, which is about how animals have helped people politicaly, ranging back to anchient Eygpt onwards.

Fav Books
-"Christian the Lion"
-"Lion at Worlds End"
-"Da Vinci Code"
-"A Zoo in my Luggage"

(all of Roald Dahl's books)

Absolute favourite book of all time is The Hobbit. Read it about four times now, and can't wait for Guillermo Del Toro's film versions next year and the one after that. Naturally, my favourite novel after that is The Lord of the Rings.

Two of my favourite book series are probably aged at early teens, but both still have high places in my hear, and they are The Switchers Trilogy and The Shapeshifter Series. So as you can see, fantasy is my favourite genre, which means the Harry Potter and His Dark Materials books are also greats. On the sci-fi front, there is Micheal Crichton's Jurassic Park and The Lost World and Douglas Adams' legendary Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Dark Star Safari (not a novel), by Paul Theroux, is a very intersting book, indeed. It paints a very dark picture of Africa, almost to the point of being politically incorrect  and leaves us with little hope as far as the wildlife on this continent is concerned. Not that this is the topic of the book, it simply deals with how things in general work (i.e. "doesn´t work") in the African countries the author pass through on his journey.

A dysfunctional continent, if we are to believe Mr Theroux. Sadly, I suspect that he is right.

Although I haven't finished I can see what you mean already...There are times when I'm reading that I wish it was a fictional story but it's not and it can be pretty depressing.

Has anyone red 'Roger's World' by Charles Siebert? Was a real eye-opener to the abhorrent situation regarding the private keeping of animals (primates in particular) in the U.S. Also contained a lot of moving revelations about the relationship between animals and ourselves.

:)

Talking of fantasy films and guillermo del toro , have you seen Pans labyrinth ? it is a wonderful film as it combines elements of harsh and violent reality and recent history with disturbing fantasy , i strongly reccomend it for you to see zambar my friend , actually i have put alot of hope in guillermo del toro that he remains faithful to the middle earth envisaged by peter jackson , i read recently that he will change the appearance of the "wargs" to appear more like the wolves of norse mythology and less like the hyena looking creatures of the lord of the ring films

At the moment I'm really enjoying John Marsdens "Tomorrow Series" as well as Matthew Reilly's Books, Seven Ancient Wonders and Six Sacred Stones, Also the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins make really good reading.
