Yup - they're definitely still both there. No need for panic! :)

Curraghs were the first place to successfully breed Patagonian Sealion in the UK - surprisingly this wasn't until 1992. A few births were recorded earlier than this, but the calves did not survive.

It means the number of animals held,for example if a collection had 2.1 it would mean they held 2 Males and 1 Female,another example would be 1.3.1 which would mean 1 Male,3 Females and 1 young/un-known sex.
 
Penscynor had a pair of Patagonian sealions which bred on several occasions but all pups died very quickly .
 
I remember when Twycross used to have 4 sea-lions. Where did they go? Are the two there able to breed or not? Anyone know of any plans for the zoo to have anymore?

There are a quite a number of Patagonians in Europe. Ironically, the ones I know that are breeding this year are in the circus.

Just had a look at Gweek's web site and found this Press release:

NATIONAL SEAL SANCTUARY - PRESS RELEASE

"Rocky" is the only California they have. He was born at Brighton Aquarium. He ended up at the seal sanctuary as he is blind.

Love the quote in the release that the new animals came from a "sea mammal centre in Benidorm ". They do of course mean Mundomar:

"Rocky" died in March/April this year (about a week or two before the visit I have pictures of in the gallery). I can vouch for zoogiraffe's information as I was standing next to him when the keeper told us about it! :D

When I started my YTS at Penscynor in 1992 there were 0.2, one died in early 1993 and the other was sent to Ravensden, and from there she was sent to Europe, not sure where though
