Wasn't the first British collection to breed the Patagonian sea lion, Curraghs wildlife park on the Isle of Man, or was that South American fur seal?
Aren't Colchester sitting with 0.5 females in their state of the art enclosure?
It means the number of animals held,for example if a collection had 2.1 it would mean they held 2 Males and 1 Female,another example would be 1.3.1 which would mean 1 Male,3 Females and 1 young/un-known sex.what do u mean 0.5?
If it has left the collection/died they will have to keep the male in his own either till he leaves or they can find another female,which in the case of Patagonian Sealions will be easier said than done as they are not that common in the U.K and Europe!
The ones at Gweek are 2 young Males.The large male that died at Gweek recently was actually a Californian Sealion and not a Patagonian.
Just had a look at Gweek's web site and found this Press release:
NATIONAL SEAL SANCTUARY - PRESS RELEASE
"Rocky" is the only California they have. He was born at Brighton Aquarium. He ended up at the seal sanctuary as he is blind.
Love the quote in the release that the new animals came from a "sea mammal centre in Benidorm ". They do of course mean Mundomar:
...::MundoMar::...
"Rocky" died in March/April this year (about a week or two before the visit I have pictures of in the gallery). I can vouch for zoogiraffe's information as I was standing next to him when the keeper told us about it!![]()
Penscynor also used to hold a single Patagonian Sealion, in the last few years of the park its pool was converted into a meerkat exhibit.
