Folks, is there a problem? :D

Yes-it's hard to believe that someone would freely refrain oneself from the deliciousness of tender bison stew, juicy springbok steak, super-thin jamón ibérico de bellota slices, tasty barramundi filet, some good ol' gumbo or that spicy horse goulash my grandma used to make. It's like a child refusing to accept an all-you-can-eat offer in the local candy store-there's something "fishy" about it...;)
What I have experienced several times when encountering vegetarians is an often more or less openly presented air of moral superiority-like in hybrid car drivers.

That also includes referring to non-vegetarians as "meat eaters" as if they were a bunch of purely carnivorous primitive cavemen...When it comes to food, I follow the credo: take your pick-but please don't pressure me to follow yours

I stick to the diet Baldur suggested and keep it as variable & healthy as possible. That frees me from being dependent on some artificial vitamin B12 pills, usually tastes great and makes me an easy guest when invited in for dinner.
Lighten up folks-manbeef.com is an old hoax.;) Just google it

I don't understand Sun, you say "yes" to the question of "is there a problem", then go on to say "please don't pressure me to follow your [beliefs]". So does that mean you have the right to question the eating habits of others yet you dislike others questioning yours. Smug alert indeed.

I like "non-vegetarians"! :p

Ohhhhh-thanks, that made my day <wipes emotional tears away, offering a brotherly hug> Remind me to cook some of my Mint Chutney roasted auberigines & spicy Peri peri plantain chips for you should we meet in person.;)

@redpanda: I was (jokingly) referring to zooplantman's question: for me, the "problem" is that it is hard for me to understand why someone would not eat the delicious dishes I mentioned. However, I personally don't mind if people don't eat them (as it means that there will be more of it left for me ;))-unless they do not want to press me to follow their example. Does this explain my post to you, or do you want to twist it again into an attempted personal insult? Maybe your own self-generated smugness clouded your vision to see the lightheartedness of my post. Or are you just in the mood for another unnecessary banter?;)

And I qoute "vast majority of meat eaters immediately start debating the presumed limitations of a vegetarian diet as soon as they meet a vegetarian."

Its already had its play! :D:D:D

That just made my day :D

OK, I have to say that one of the best parts of being a vegetarian for so long is seeing just how uncomfortable meat eaters get around the idea. I have never advocated a vegetarian diet to anyone (what do I care what you eat?) and am careful not to disparage the meat food of my fellow diners, and yet over the years I see the vast majority of meat eaters immediately start debating the presumed limitations of a vegetarian diet as soon as they meet a vegetarian.

In fairness, I think this is pretty much universal with any kind of special requirement (dietary or otherwise) - it becomes an 'elephant in the room' pretty quickly - so people either go out of their way to avoid discussing it or start asking about in the hope that this will make it less awkward (which of course it doesn't).

I would also say that in my experience most vegetarians are pretty vocal on the subject once it's been brought up - so maybe we can all share the blame for making a meal out of it (so to speak!).

vegetarians are easier to annoy than, um, non-vegetarians. I mean if you throw bits of raw bloody meat at a vegetarian it really disgusts them whereas if you throw bits of raw lettuce at a non-vegetarian they couldn't care less :D

ah, Obelix, the true king of (carnivorous) gourmands :D

you really do come up with the most amazingly eclectic link selections Sun Wukong :)

I love the Twelve Tasks of Asterix - I particularly like the bit where he's got to get a particular form from a massive complex bureacracy!

I am currently Vegetarian and have been for 18 months, I have been considering going back to meat over the next few days, as I miss Chicken, Crab, Duck and Salmon, I also think this will be a better diet for me as a growing child (Im 13) although....

I now think I will stay Vegetarian! I dont want to get fat, even a tiny bit podgy, I wont tolerate it!!! Its also to be different though.

I am staying Vegetarian and no one will change that.
in all seriousness, it should be noted that eating meat doesn't make a person fat Paix, over-eating (for one's activity level) is what makes a person fat.

Also, becoming a vegetarian isn't particularly rebellious or "different" - its actually quite normal in teenage years to go through this phase (and of course many people stick with it for various reasons)

well now you're just being sloppy...anyone can come up with a Simpsons clip as a reference (as was said on South Park, The Simpsons have done everything!)
:D

But it was sooo convenient...The food chain! The sheep carried away by a Steller's Sea Eagle!! The Bovine University!!! Oh the Humor!;)

Ok, here's one from Austria, with the title: Fleisch bringt's = Meat's the thing
