Chester Zoo Chester Zoo Special Event with Curator of Mammals, Tim Rowlands

Absolutely - many thanks to all involved - especially Tim of course for making this possible.

Good to see everyone there - both those I've met before and the 'newbies'. :D

After Tim's talk a few of us went for another wander around the site for the wild dogs to get a bit of a feel for it (and take photos of the area before building starts!) - looking forward to it all the more now.

Thanks to zoogiraffe and SMR for putting this together and especially Tim for giving up such a large chunk of his 76 hour week. I really enjoyed the day and it was great to put faces to names.

Just like to echo everyone elses sentiments - a big thank you to all involved.

I really enjoyed the day, and meeting more zoo chatters as well.

I had a fantastic day today. Thankyou ZG for organizing all of this and for a very big thankyou to Tim for giving us some of his time in his very busy schedule. Look forward to the next one :D

Cheers

I'd just like to add to the happy thank you-ers above.

I had oodles of fun and it's got to be the first time I've left the zoo having taken under 100 photos :D

many thanks to Tim and the organisers (ZG & SMR?) stick my name down for the next one coz I will be free :)

as a newbie is was great to meet lots of new faces and although I didn't get around to chatting to you all it was great to meet you all and spend time with you!

cheers

I can only echo what everyone else has said - a great day.

Many thanks to Tim for giving us so much time.

A whole heap of fun (though I've rarely spent so long in a zoo and seen so few animals!) A big thank you to all concerned - looking forward to the bird tour already.

Well everybody's beaten me to it, but a very big thank you to all involved from me and AgileGibbon :). We had a brilliant time ad we only hope that we can get another one together soon :). It was great to meet everybody (though traffic made us fashionably late, and we probably missed introductions), didn't get round to finding out who everybody was on here but hopefully will do next time :D. Again, thank you to everybody.

Same with me. All the work put in by ZooGiraffe and SMR is appreciated. I rushed off to leave the zoo early and then got collared by one of the presenters who kept me talking for 15-20 minutes. So that plan didn't work very well. Looking forward to more events in the future.

Thanks to all for attending and making this a sucessfull day,i will thank Tim in the e-mail i send him early next week.
As some people have alluded there will be a repeat some time next year of Tims at the moment the plan is for 2 more similar to yesterdays, plus a special for the EAZA Primate Campaign next year but this one will have a charge on top of the entry,to help Chester raise alot of money for this very worthwhile campaign.
Finally as has been stated we do have the go for doing a Bird walk and Talk with Andrew Owens, details will be posted as and when myself,SMR and the zoo are happy with the plan,so watch the Forum for updates when we have any more news on any of the above mentioned Days!

I look forward to them. Yesterday was a very good day, and very informative :)

Thanks to all from me too, it was lovely to get so close to a black rhino (or 2) and it's fascinating to hear of how things work on a different level, the plans, and all the things that go into making a new enclosure for example.

I'm afraid that I'm one of the last to express my appreciation here (but I sent a PM last night). I was very impressed by Tim's positive and candid attitude and it was very generous of him to share so much of his time with us.
I think the idea of making a contribution to the zoo's fund raising for a future event is only fair - it will be a good example of constructive engagement.
It was also nice to meet so many ZooChatters, although we didn't have very much time to get to know each other. Like karoocheetah, I hardly took any photos, which may seem almost incredible, and the ones I did take were rubbish (which is not incredible) - it seems I can't think and take pictures at the same time :o

I have only now got back home and managed to get on a PC. I very much enjoyed the whole day. I would like to thank the organising committee (zoogiraffe and SMR) for an event well organised. Last and not least, I would also like to thank an pay my due respects to Tim Rowlands for taking so much time and effort to go around with us and present the latest on the Mammal front at our beloved zoo. Top marks to you 3!!!

Are you able to divulge any info or is it strictly hush hush?? I'd completely understand if Tim did ask you to keep things private

Yes - a great day was had by all. I especially like seeing the plans for next year and the 'behind the scenes' moments too!

Regards next years fund rasing opportunity: I am happy to report that the charity arm of my employer will double whatever money is raised from any fundraising venture next year! SO - I know it is a way off but whatever we contribute next year will be multiplied by two fold (up to £1,000)!! Hope this may help make an even bigger difference to the Primate campaign.... and maybe we could aim for the £1000 and turn it into £2,000!!

This is excellent news; thank you for coming up with such a great idea and for getting your company to take part. We're not sure how the event will be organised yet, the zoo will need to be more involved on the finances side so that they can claim gift aid etc., but I'll send you a PM with some contact details and ensure everyone stays in the loop.

As for Chester and the EAZA ape campaign, is it possible for anybody to raise money and give it to the zoo for the campaign, or is it raised by donations at the zoo and events the zoo organises strictly?
