Maybe this would of been a good time for Austraila zoo to step up to the plate since they had stated they wanted the species, yet another chance gone by perhaps?
Possibly one of Motaba's sons or a new male from overseas?
Probably an entirely unrelated male from abroad? Although Motaba's son Ganyeka(?) is from a very unrepresented line on his mother's (G.Anne) side- she was born in USA and has very few relatives. However Motaba's line is more represented.
Rigo is not going to be moved again at his age, I wouldn't think. Besides, if integrating him into the main troop at Melbourne hasn't led to any interest in breeding from him, it's hard to see how doing so at Sydney would either.
I was thinking maybe new females might make him interested in breeding.
What will be the future of Mahali? A male. Wiil he be put in breeding circumstances?
Australia needs more holding institutions. The better should start with with five groups, plus some bachelor groups. Should give a more permanent position for the future.
Total waste of time. He's had plenty of chance with 'new ' females already. Rigo is a lost cause in my opinion (unless someone knows better!)
I guess Melbourne will probably just carry on with him for the foreseeable future and have no breeding. They might try AI from him too but that is almost a guaranteed failure too.
When a new male arrives at Taronga in three years time they may want their young female back from Melbourne, especially if she hasn't bred there, depending on how both groups stand then.
I am also wondering what will happen to Mahale? Will he move to Weribee or eventually move to Orana?
