Zoological Organizations with Multiple Zoos

Mildly surprised that no-one from the UK has yet mentioned the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust.

The society that operates the venerable (and tiny) Bristol Zoo have ambitious plans for a new site that they already own at Hollywood Towers, but the depth of this recession seems to have put this project onto the back burner.

I was just waiting to see how long it was before someone did... and that's the truth.;)

Bristol Zoo's proposed 'National Conservation Park' has been the subject of much previous discussion and speculation on here. But the dates for its commencement/completion slipped back and back and currently it no longer seems to be mentioned at all- either by the Zoo or on here either as there seems nothing new to say.:( One day maybe...

At one time (1970's?) Bristol Zoo had an interest in Dudley as they bailed it out financially when it was going to close- not sure if there is any connection any more though.

I would be interested if someone who knew about the early days of Marwell felt able to comment on Hollywood Towers. Surely there must be an argument for simply opening the site with homespun architecture rather than waiting around forever for the millions needed for the immersive exhibits hoped for.

In the UK paradise wildlife park and the wildlife heritage foundation are owned by the Sampson family.

@Cat-Man and DavidBrown: As far as I know, there is another Disney Park with animals: Typhoon Lagoon and its fishes (incl. sharks).

I have been there but many, many years ago. It was then just an undeveloped farming estate, and I imagine it may still be not much diferent now? To open it up and provide the infrastructure for visitors, Car Park, paths, shop, toilets etc.etc and paddocks, fencing and housing even for some simple 'large animal' exhibits which the Zoo lacks, e.g. 'African plains' style would still cost them a great deal. And for that type of exhibit and range of species I think Noah's Ark have now provided real competition as 'Bristol's 2nd Zoopark', so Bristol's concept would still need to be very different and upmarket to attract the crowds.

In fairness, there's a whole 50% of the weekend when Bristol's new zoo would be free from competition from Noah's.

"NWCP - the 7-day Zoo" :D
