On Saturday one of the little babirooooosa was charging (in a mild kind of way) at me, looking worried, running behind its mother, getting up its nerve again and coming back for another go, we had quite a few repeats before it gave up.

My admiration goes to Talia the rebellious tapibara though.

Was surprised by the fish tank in the jag house, I was expecting some sort of built-in type thing, I like it and the sloths.

anyone got any idea what the current Chester zoo facebook status is about;
"We'll be announcing some very exciting
news later today. Stay tuned..."

Will be visiting in 2 weeks time I would like to know which area's are likely to be very busy and what should I look for this year.
I am very interested in birds but would like to know about other interesting species around the zoo if I miss it first time round I will be visiting again around August if all goes well.

EDIT - will the ant eaters be out in 2 weeks time and what is the best time to see them

They where great last year and are MORE FEROCIOUS this year. The only problem it caused a jam last time because it was so popular.Spot the one's that spray you with water.!!!!Haha.

Have we aquired another Zebra?

0.2 arrived from Beekse Burgen and Marwell in 2011, they are called Kelly and Nadine. Kelly was born on 21st November 2009 at Beekse Burgen. Nadine was born 25th August 2005.

Obviously the kiddy look wasn't good enough, so they went for something almost as bad.

The new map is horrible in FireFox. All the colours of sections not highlighted seem to invert when the mouse is moved over them.

@ Adrian - I think if it's sunny then the anteaters will venture out - if it's chilly or evil weather then likely not - sorry that's the best I can offer!

I've only seen the youngster a couple of times myself.

The Giant Otter underwater bit can be a bottle neck if busy but do go and see it - the Otters seem to love interacting with people.

The Reopened SotJaguar is great - the tank is good. As for the best times and places for the birds I'll leave that to others - but the tropical house is good for me in the afternoon usually.

enjoy your visit - don't get lost the map needs a bit of work :O)

Jag House and Realm of the Red Ape always very busy I would head there 1st thing.
Anteaters are really pot luck they are seen at all different times of day if you can collar a keeper and see if they are being fed that may help.

We have babirusa piglets just outside ROTRA, also the giant otter underwater viewing and Aardvarks in with the meerkats best time for these is after 330pm they tend to be active towards the end of the day.

Visit the tropical Realm for some great free flying birds also the Tsavo Aviary with one of my faves the Lilac Breasted Roller

News from a visit today.

There are two more bongos bringing the herd up to five.

A pair of Blue-winged Geese are now in the pelican aviary.

Two of the owl aviaries are labelled for Hawk Owls, but I only saw one bird in the original aviary. I'm guessing the new on is a mate for him.

The aviary by the Rhinoceros Hornbills on the ground floor of the Tropical Realm is empty.

Peruvian Fern Stick Insects are housed with the red-backed poison frogs.

The monorail broke down over the wattled crane enclosure. The rescue locomotive came and pushed the train back to Monkey Islands Station where it remained for around 30 minutes, delaying the arrival of the next monorail which had to wait on the downward slope by the elephants.

Myself and several of the sitatunga watched the proceedings with interest.

Some of the dinos were visible, Stegosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Pachycephalosaurus and T.rex and baby. There was also a sauropod, not sure which species it represents.

Both flocks of flamingos were very active. I wonder if it is the start of the breediing season.

I thought that two arrived towards the end of last year. Hasn't the herd stoof at 0.5 for some time now? Forgive me if I'm wrong...

You are right. I don't know how I forgot, I'm a disgrace to my user name.

Nice to see I was right about theT-rex breeding program starting at Chester this year:D:p

ooo do you think there will be a naming competition on facebook? :D

@ Bongorob - I'm just shocked

I daren't show my face in Chester Zoo ever again! As Jordan pointed out, I should have know, I posted the news in the first place.

I propose Tiddles for the T.rex baby's name. Tiddles the Tyrannosaurus sounds good.

I imagine they'd go for some extravagant "Native American" name meaning something along the lines of "gift", "river" or "beauty"...

Id go for more traditional American names: Chuck or possibly Bud.

Would it be possible to stick a vowel on the end, to make it more consistent? Chucke (Pronounced Chuckeh) has a very nice, slightly Mancunian sound to it which would certainly please some visitors, such as Kevin Le Vell.

In other (actual) news, three Meerkat pups are now on show - whilst the sloth (do correct me if I have the wrong plural) have been confirmed as being named 'Camillo' and 'Tina'.
