Manor House Wildlife Park Bad news from Manor House.

i heard that something happened about this on the radio, but it never said it was at Manor house!

How much the recession is to blame for Manor House's fortunes is questionable, I think it might have more to do with little things like the eye-watering £250 it costs to become an annual member.

Whu...?? For a zoo with two dozen non-domestic species?

That's madness. A membership at Bristol and a few train tickets/tanks of petrol would give much better value!

EDIT: Blimey, it's true... you'd have to really want to meet Anna R-R...

Annual memberships are £250, and the benefits include:
•An annual pass for you and a friend
•Regular newsletter
•Out of hours park guide with Anna Ryder Richardson
•Invitation to the Annual Members Evening, with drinks, discussions and supper (additional charge applies)
•Pre-release information on developments

It includes two tickets, so it's £125 per person, but that's not really any better as you can't just buy one (and it's still double Chester's rates at that!).

well, I don't..;) I didn't even know who she was till she bought this place:D.

This is one place where I have been in the carpark but not the zoo- before they owned it. I hadn't much time and was just passing, plus the entry fee seemed quite steep to see what was then a small collection of run-of- the mill stock in a dilapitated setting.

I must say I can't think of anything worse than the getting on the treadmill of trying to make a success of a small 'DIY' animal collection like this, and I still wish them every success with what is clearly still an uphill struggle. One of the major problems for both Dartmoor and Manor House is that they are in pretty remote locations I think, not places I would choose to site a Zoo.

Tenby is quite a popular resort, and unlike Dartmoor it has a mild all year climate. A zoo owner who really was wised up about animal management and the needs of the UK/Irish zoo community might do very well there with a collection of birds and small to medium sized mammals. Dare I say someone like Todd Dalton, or maybe a Newquay type collection.

Agreed, Maguari - it doesn't look like value for money to me. Even ZSL fellow rates come in cheaper than that.

Just checked their web-site , a basic Season Ticket valid until the end of 2012 costs £19.90 . Wonder how many people will be willing to pay all that extra for a few membership priveliges .

Ah - that makes more sense. Teach me to look into things late at night!

Though, as you suggest, I can only think that would decrease even further the pool for the £250 memberships.

On the point of £250 pair of passes, quite a few zoos charge ridiculous amounts for an after hours visit that doesn't include using the zoo owner as the tour guide. A quick google shows that bristol charge £99pp for two hours with their great apes. It might not be the deal for everyone, but I reckon it'd be fairly popular.

That in itself should be some sort of crime.

I had to do a double take! I thought they sounded more like a pair of badly named poodles!:p
