Edit: I've just remembered another note.

One of the Rhinos in Tsavo has a polyp in her lip, which is getting veterinary treatment. The sign didn't say which rhino had the polyp though...

Good old google, well I hope its not Kitani who has the polyp! Because that would be a differcult decision to dart her, when she only has 3/4months until she is due
 
Because what I read about polyp, sugests that it would be a minor op to remove and I have not found anything of the web that says it could be treated by drugs. That is why I based my assumption they would have to dart her.

Even if they could keep her happy in a crush style cage am sure that removing it would cause her distress.

But hey I could be wrong as the Internet isn't realiable source of information all the time
 
There are now 4.0 cheetahs. The original plan to import 3.3 was changed to 4.3. Unfortunately the females failed to pass the health check. The cheetahs will be exchanged for Whipsnade specimens as soon as quarantine has been completed. They were imported from the United Arab Emirates, not Saudi Arabia as two different members of staff told me. Two are in the south enclosure and two in the north. The viewing shelter is almost complete.

The male onager was twice seen mating a female, I don't know if she was the same one, or if he has mated with two. Or maybe all three.

The 0.2 Bengal Tigers are to return to West Midlands Safari Park soon, and a female Sumatran will be coming to Chester, I don't know where from.

Margaret is getting along well, and should be back in the giraffe enclosure within 2-3 weeks.

The Azara's Agoutis have 2 more babies.

Finally a mystery. A presenter told me that the Great Indian Hornbill from the Elephant House had been moved to the Tropical Realm last Thursday, and the Elephant House aviary now housed a pair of pheasants, she couldn't remember what species.

I went to look and the hornbill was sitting on a branch preening, and there was no sign of any pheasants.
 
Possibly the Hornbill is yet to move, though hopefully the presenter doesnt have her info correct as the Hornbills make quite a good exhibit in the elephant house i think.

Great to see the female tiger is set to arrive aswell.

1. I expected that - as I observed earlier - that the north-eastern cheetah were to be sourced from the UAE. I have not heard from my sources that this taxon is actually kept by individuals inside Saudi (allthough the possibility exists that some of the royal family maintain them on import direct from Sudan, Chad or Somalia.

How many individuals and sex ratio is at Whipsnade? What will be the preferred set up at Chester (3.1 or 3.2)?

2. I hope the onager stallion has been successful with all 3 females. Was not 1 calf born this or last year? It would be imperative to the the Onager EEP to improve breeding and start contributing to in situ conservation efforts in Iran.

3. I suspect a possible source for a female Sumatran will be the Burgers Zoo triplet females at Arnhem (they at one time will want to establish a breeding pair in Holland and surplus the other females out to other collections in need of a new female.

Yes, in the UK (possibly elsewhere) the Christmas promotions start earlier and earlier every year and it's getting ridiculous. Last year, they started in mid september in my area...

I really don't understand why Chester is promoting the frost fair this early...
 
Chester has hatched a chick from their Writhed Hornbills. This is a UK first breeding. Moving the pair to a new aviarty seems to have done the trick.
 
Think i know someone who will be popping the champagne corks tonight (pity he ain't old enough to drink it)
