Chester Zoo Chester 2012 news #2

Well I was sure that I saw signs still up when I last visted, but I stand corrected that they weren't up.

Also just a note they have moved the Rhinos since your visit, but I cannot remember which has moved where!

Thanks for that - I know Chester's rhino exhibit is specifically designed to move them round easily, last time I was there Magadi was in Tsavo one (Right) and Asani and Bashira (Left). I wonder who the new Rhinos on display are...;)

If some of the signage has names for ID purposes, then yes it would be useful, especially for me to identify the rhino and then say on here which individual it is that I think looks pregnant, so other visitors could make their opinion, hence me saying in my previous post the right hand side pen as you walk in to help ID the rhino.

However, as a talking point as to what date a particular sign has or has not been removed by the zoo then I really have no interest in that as a discussion, and this later point was what I was referring to when I said on the previous post I have no interest.

That should, I hope clear that up :).

Did you take a photo? If so, then maybe that could clear it all up. :)

When I posted on a thread 2 years ago about missing signs leading to confusion alot of members on here posted back saying it didn't happen at Chester.

EDIT - Any missing signs at any zoo are confusing to the public let alone regulars

The signs telling people they are Black Rhino's are not missing just the ones that id the different Rhinos!

Sorry about that I miss understood still confusing for the regulars though by the sounds of it with the replies on here.

Was going to visit on the 17th May but with the zoo not opening till later then I am going to leave it till later in the year (info got from there facebook page).
It's great to see they have had the sense to drop the addmission charge though must admit well done to the zoo hope everything goes well for them on the 5th June

Now I could be wrong, but think you have confused the dates, the zoo is open at noon this Thursday th 17th wit h reduced prices as the Queen is coming to open the new entrance area.

Many thanks for pointing out the date mistake June 5th is a very important birthday for my sister, what makes the mistake worse is I have a calender just above my monitor.

I'm sure the Rhino team at the zoo genuinely guffaw with delight when they see the amount of time & effort spent on here trying to work out which Rhino is in which bit of the Tsavo complex :O)

I have suggested a bar code system or even a QR code that could be applied to each Rhino and that we there would never be any confusion¬

That would solve all the confusion...;)

I don't understand the obsession, they switch 'em, what's the point in knowing where X&Y are on date 1 when they maybe somewhere else with someone else on date 2 & somewhere else with someone else again on date 3 but as no one we know visits on dates 2 & 3 we don't know anyway.

Come on let's stop messing about easiest way to sort the Rhino Problem is just chop a different leg off each one then they can swap them all they like and we will still know who is where

EDIT - Just joking

That won't work if there are more than four rhinos. Good idea for millipede exhibits though, I can never distinguish individuals of them either

I just wish I never mentioned that I saw what appeared to me to be possibly a preganant rhino and another two next door!!!

I know what to do next time

Bad Pootle - just look at the trouble you caused actually posting some potentially interesting info! :)

The Rhino debate is purely a source of much fun for most of us here - personally I don't really care which Rhino is in which part of Tsavo as long as I can identify my photos I'm happy - If you reckon one is pregnant then I'm sure the zoo will announce it as soon as they can and you'll be vindicated :D

My idea of a bar code painted onto the side of each rhino still stands though!!

Could just give them all the same name and then everyone would be correct when naming them :-)
