Chester Zoo Chester Zoo updates *3

The zoo's Facebook page is teasing readers with 'who would like to see pics of the zoo's newest babies?' I am guessing the pictures (when uploaded) will be of the flamingos.

Nope... It's the Hyrax

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but Facebook has announced the arrival of four ploughshare tortoises, part of a shipment of thirteen discovered in Hong Kong, now due to form a European Breeding Programme with Jersey and Rotterdam recieving the others.

Exciting news from a zoo nerd's angle, an interesting proposition from a conservation one and above all very good news for the individual animals concerned. Good news all round. :)

Been banking on this for some time now. Expect more exciting reptilian arrivals in Europe shortly. This is one to remember. Kudos to several very committed zoo staff in these collections.!!! :)

Only just remembered, the 'book-type' labels for the birds in Europe on the Edge have been replaced by conventional signs, at least the right birds are now shown.

No mentioning of his name...

I only come back to thank all those who encouraged me by their comments to continue my search: It is now a fact, that Chester Zoo never intended to take Kevin. It has reached the newspapers, but of course that doesn' help him.
Who ever is interested may see his picture in the gallery.

This isn't news, but I just thought I'd say I visited Chester Zoo for the first time this week and was very impressed. We only had a few hours so there must be loads I didn't see but I am now very jealous of those of you with the fortune to have it as your local zoo!

According to the free local paper, the final plans have been submitted to the council.

Does anyone know when the bull elephant from Seville will be arriving? And are any of the cows pregnant at the moment?

There is currently no date for the arrival of the new bull from Spain.

Yes 2 of the cows are currently pregnant - roughly due in December & January 2013 from the info at the last members talk.

:D

From Facebook it appears one of the young otters had an encounter with a babirusa that resulted in fatal injuries.
