I've been looking at the AZA studbooks/breeding plans and i have some news.
The 2011 Red River Hog book says we are or did transfer Sabrina, Simon and Dwight to Shaddow Nursery Inc in Tennesse. We are or did get a now 2 year old female named Casey from Cinicinnati and a now 1 year old nameless male from Oaklahoma. The new hogs are future breeders. Has this happened?
The 2011 Warthog book says we are or did receive a new female Lucy from Atlanta to breed with Stephan as priority breeders. Back up breeders are Jimmy, Dean or Schneider.
So maybe some new piglets on the way for next summer.
I also looked up the Hippos and it says Samson, Petal and Perky's parentage is unknown or partially unknown. If they are siblings born at the zoo shouldnt we know exactly who their parents were? And if their parents are the original hippos brought in from the wild when the zoo was formed shouldnt their genetics be valuable? I know we cant breed them because they are siblings but wouldnt other zoos have wanted them before they got too old to breed. Or at least we could have shipped out Samson to make room for a new unrelated male and bred. I'd be interested to know more about our hippos past.
