I agree with those three examples.That was a lot of fun. There are some really good commercials in there. I especially liked the Oregon Coast Aquarium's ad as well as the one for the Columbus Zoo. However, I felt the Pittsburgh Zoo ad gave the message that their docents are obnoxious.
the weird thing with this ad is that those visitors are actors!! I honestly don't know what the creators thought they were putting across to the viewer but whatever it was it didn't work!BeardsleyZooFan said:Pittsburgh Zoo- By far the worst one. They made the docents seem like smartasses, and if you look at the guests after the docent tells them the facts, they seem pretty pissed. If he popped up in front of my camera like that, I'd probably hit him in the face with it.
I watched the whole 10 minute collection of ads, and it does not surprise me at all that almost every one of them was geared towards a younger audience. Most of the commercials had young children in them, or youthful images, or cartoon sections, etc, and if any of us visit our local zoo then we'd see 85% of the patrons with kids and the rest couples or older families. It therefore makes sense to have family-friendly images in commercials because the number of solo visitors to any zoo is probably less than 1% of the daily attendance numbers. Before I got married (and had a couple of snow leopard cubs) I'd still visit Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle or Vancouver Aquarium by myself, and I'd be practically the only solo individual in those establishments. Maybe my estimate of 1% is actually too high!
@BeardsleyZooFan: thanks for posting!
