That was a lot of fun. There are some really good commercials in there. I especially liked the Oregon Coast Aquarium's ad as well as the one for the Columbus Zoo. However, I felt the Pittsburgh Zoo ad gave the message that their docents are obnoxious.

I watched a little over half of it. I find it somewhat disappointing that all of the ads seem to reinforce the stereotype that zoos are for kids.

I agree with those three examples.

My quick opinions (in order):

St. Louis Zoo: horrible
Phoenix Zoo: I liked it, very nature documentary-ish
Milwaukee Zoo's Adventure Dinosaur: fun
Memphis Zoo dinosaurs: all right, nothing special
Atlanta Zoo: good
Oakland Zoo: no no no. It seemed more like a pitch to a company looking for sponsorship or something
Seneca Park Zoo: one of the better ones
Cameron Park Zoo: too cloying, but nice video
Great Plains Zoo: really just too stupid
Dinosaurs Reptiland: I liked this one, it gave a good sense of drama and excitement
Columbus Zoo: well done (not to my taste, but well done)
Georgia Aquarium: too Disney
jellies at Shedd Aquarium: almost my favourite
Monterey Bay: really annoying voice-over
Aquarium of the Pacific: effective I thought; it would make people want to visit
National Aquarium: stupid
San Antonio Zoo: very retro; I don't know if it would appeal to kids but to adults I think it would (and having Valley of Gwangi at the start is a big bonus!!)
Pittsburgh Zoo: what Ituri said. This is just a weird ad. I wanted to punch the guy in the face, and bizarrely the other actors looked like they wanted to do the same. Very weird.
Oregon Coast Aquarium: best one of the lot
North Carolina Aquarium: boring boring boring

I watched the whole 10 minute collection of ads, and it does not surprise me at all that almost every one of them was geared towards a younger audience. Most of the commercials had young children in them, or youthful images, or cartoon sections, etc, and if any of us visit our local zoo then we'd see 85% of the patrons with kids and the rest couples or older families. It therefore makes sense to have family-friendly images in commercials because the number of solo visitors to any zoo is probably less than 1% of the daily attendance numbers. Before I got married (and had a couple of snow leopard cubs:)) I'd still visit Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle or Vancouver Aquarium by myself, and I'd be practically the only solo individual in those establishments. Maybe my estimate of 1% is actually too high!

@BeardsleyZooFan: thanks for posting!

Yes, but that begs the question - why not try to reach out to a new demographic instead of spending money on ads to attract visitors that are going to go to the zoo anyway.

Chlidonias- I liked your way of posting your ideas for each ad, so I hope you don't mind if I do a post like yours.
Saint Louis Zoo- Annoying.
Phoenix Zoo- Personally one of my faves out of the lot.
Milwaukee County Zoo- Seemed fun, and I think kids would like it.
Memphis Zoo- Ehh... not bad, but it wasn't my cup of tea.
Atlanta Zoo- Nice.
Oakland Zoo- Childonias described it perfectly.
Seneca Park Zoo- Pretty good.
Cameron Park Zoo- Kind of annoying. If the song wasn't there, I would of liked it more.
Great Plains Zoo- Seriously? Ugh.
Clyde Peeling's Reptiland- I liked it, it made me want to go there. The spitting Dilophosaurus reference is used too much in dino displays though.
Columbus Zoo- I liked it, and I remember the "don't touch" rule from when I was young, so I think that this would attract younger kids.
Georgia Aquarium- Made it seem more dramatic than it really is.
Shedd Aquarium- Very good. Who doesn't like gazing at jellies?
Monterey Bay Aquarium- Too corny.
Aquarium of the Pacific- Definately one of the better ones. I think it would make people want to go to the ends of the Earth without leaving Cali.
National Aquarium- Dumb.
San Antonio Zoo- I've always been a fan of these kinds of commercials.
Pittsburgh Zoo- By far the worst one. They made the docents seem like smartasses, and if you look at the guests after the docent tells them the facts, they seem pretty pissed. If he popped up in front of my camera like that, I'd probably hit him in the face with it.
Oregon Coast Aquarium- Very good. I liked it a lot.
North Carolina Aquarium- Dull and wouldn't get me pumped up.

interesting that your opinions are close to mine on all of them, I think. They should hire us to produce zoo advertisements!!

the weird thing with this ad is that those visitors are actors!! I honestly don't know what the creators thought they were putting across to the viewer but whatever it was it didn't work!

I'm a kid and I approve.:D
