All I can give you buddy besides saying how cute they are.
Welcome to ZooChat. If you go on often, you will soon realize how annoying I am and that I'm on almost every hit thread right now:D

Thnx for your reply! I've already saw and read these sites. But what I would teally want is to get some info of someone who have experience with these animals. And could tell me more about them.
Haha Yes they are really cute! :)

You might get more responses if you are more specific about what exactly you want to know, and why you want to know (school project, working at a zoo etc).

I want to get more info because I want to keep them. But I only want them when I have more info about them. Cause I want to do it perfectly or else I don´t.

You can't keep a monkey as a pet. End of story.

Unless Marjolein is planning on keeping them as part of a serious private collection in an actual enclosure? I agree, they are not a pet species to have in a parrot cage or whatever, but nowhere has this user said he wants them as a 'pet.' When the user says that they want to keep them, it could full well be in the same way that a zoo keeper or private collection owner keeps and looks after their charges.

Exactly Javan Rhino, I don´t want them as a pet to cuddle with them all day long on the couch. I want to keep them just like you said like people who want them for a private collection. That´s why I would really like to know real specific things about them and not just things like the weight, age and height. And I want to know how I can make a perfect cage for them...

I believe the correct term in your situation is enclosure or exhibit, not cage. That's whatI believe zoos are calling them now since the word 'cage' must seem barbaric or something like that. At the same time, many zoos do keep animals in what I would consider small and badly designed enough to be called a cage.

Just out of curiosity, do you plan on exhibiting these animals to the public like they're the beginning of a small, private zoo (if so good luck:)) or do you plan on breeding the species in private to start a small breeding colony to then give to zoos and such (that would be pretty cool)? Are you mabye doing both?

Keep us posted on how your search and raising of these animals go when (or if) you do decide to get one.:D:D

Then again, keeping primates in the Netherlands requires a special permit that to my knowledge has not (or rarely?) been issued since it became necessary in 2007...(not to private keepers anyways).

that would be the most important piece of information she needed then!

Marjolein, as stated before by Jwer you need a permit in Netherlands for keeping primates. And you can apply for it at the Ministery of Economical Affairs and Agriculture and then it will be rejected. No permits have been provided to private individuals except for those that already kept primates when the permit was introduced. So my advice forget about it.

I´ve already looked it up earlier and looked on the Cites site. It is possible to get the papers for them.

Yes that´s true, cage sounds cruel but I didn´t know an other word for it. My English ain´t that good. No I don´t want to start a small private zoo but like you said I´m planning to become a small breeder. Yes if it all works out I´ll let it know.

Getting captive-bred Cebuella pygmaea with the right CITES documents is the easy part of the process but the Dutch ministry will not give you a permit. People with a lot of experience in primate husbandry have tried and failed. Theoritically it is possible but in practice all applications from non-zoos are denied. So to prevent yourself a lot of frustration, time and money my advice is to leave it and just enjoy this species in the zoos in your area.

Random question, but what is the reasoning behind Holland not granting permits for private keepers to keep primates?

The idea from the ministry is that primates are social complex creatures with complicated husbandry needs and that private keepers cannot full-fill these. This might be true for the large majority of species and for the majority of people interested in keeping primates. I think that for people with certain expertise and experience it is possible to keep certain species especially Callitrichidae, Lorisidae or Galagonidae. The law itself gives space to give permits to this group of people, but the ministry decided to go for the easy way and just reject any private application.
