It's not that old brick house across the street from the New Hope church is it?
This has probably been stated earlier but what ever happened to those six surviving animals of the 2011 Ohio exotic animal release that were sent to the Columbus Zoo? I know one of the Leopards was injured and was put down but how was it injured and what about the other animals?
The other animals were given back to Marian Thompson, widow of Terry Thompson who released the animals before killing himself.
They will have to be registered with the state under the new exotic animal law, and the enclosures have to meet more stringent standards.
I hope they are in better conditions there. I remeber seeing a Sulawesi Crested Macaque in the news video of the surviving six. I'm surprised a new law wasn't past to keep such endangered animals out of the public's hands unless they meet a ton of specific needs.
The law essentially makes it illegal to acquire new animals, and requires inspections and permits to keep existing animals.
I run the assignment desk at a Columbus television station and I've had access to a good amount of material from both the night of the tragedy and the months sense. The cat and bear enclosures in use now appear to be more than adequate, as opposed to the oversized dog kennels used previously.
I believe Ms. Thompson has a genuine love for the animals and I expect her to keep them healthy for the remainder of their lives.
Jack Hanna was on Piers Morgan Tonight last night for the entire hour with many of the zoo's and The Wild's animal ambassadors including a snow leopard, cheetah, binturong, two swift foxes, a warthog, and quite a few others. If anyone is interested, the episode will be played again tonight at 9:00 p.m. EST on CNN.
Thank you for posting that. I really enjoyed the program although Piers wouldn't let Jack finish half his sentences and treated almost every animal like it was about to jump up and tear his face off. Spectacular species they have there at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. I'm trying to extend my Ohio trip that might happen over the summer to include Columbus along with Cincinnati. I didn't know Siberian Lynx were Extinct in the Wild?![]()
