This is blospz's partner. I just wanted to add my two cents about the Maryland Zoo. I agree with the previous poster that they could change the empty former hoof stock paddocks to an Asian exhibit. It would be nice to see a variety of species like they mentioned, however all of them would probably be too much and not enough adequate space for all of those creatures. Another option would be to build a South American themed or even an Australian themed area. It seems so few zoos really focus on these areas with stellar exhibits and unusual animals. It would be cool to see an indoor rainforest area mixed with outdoor exhibits. This zoo has so few indoor exhibits that it I think it would help, especially with attendance in the colder months of the year. As for improvements to existing to areas I would say Africa needs more vantage points for the zebra/ostrich/rhino/ hoof stock area. It would be cool to build a bridge over the water and a boardwalk around the other side of the rock area for other viewing points. Also add pygmy hippos to the empty area across from the sitatunga exhibit. Redo viewing and exhibit for the lions and the okapi. Allow visitors to view elephants while in the barn. Possibly add some outdoor space for the sifaka complete with climbing and space to leap. In the children's area the farm needs a total revamp and reinvention. It is desperately in need of an update and more species/ more animals added to it. The forest area could have different forest animals exhibited. Skunks, beavers, badgers, black bears, white tail deer (walk through like Pittsburgh), porcupine, red tailed hawk, bald eagle would all be welcome additions. The river otter exhibit could be cut in half and add either more river otters to the other half (as they are not very social creatures) or another species like beavers. The Arctic area needs more animals added or ones who have passed replaced more quickly. The snow owl exhibit has been empty too long. I would love to see them readded as well as ptarmigans exhibited. Snow weasels, snow hares, and arctic wolves would all be welcome additions as well. A major addition would be to add harbor seals to the area if they expanded the area. Overall the zoo just needs to add more animals species and more animals to the population of their existing species.
