What will be the future of Maxim, residing Sevilla, as he is the only surviving offspring mothers side?

Is he in good shape? Anyone details?

Seville currently has seven males at present but having looked at them I have narrowed it down to the potential candidates;

'Maxim' - he's been at Seville for about ten years, he was born at Rotterdam. He was at Port Lympne for a while if I recall.

'Tsje Pyan' - he was born at Emmen (Thiha Phyu x Naing Thein). He has been at Seville for about nine years.

'Maurice' - he was born at La Palmyre (Alix x Chinto). He is eleven years old, the other two are slightly older (13/14 I think).

And in the event, a surprise fourth contender made himself known ;) as it has not yet been noted in this thread, the new Chester male turned out to be Aung Bo - born in Emmen Zoo on 16th July 2001 (Nagathan x Khaing Lwin Htoo)

Zoo Emmen is eagerly looking for a new holder of their small family unit of 4 asian elephants. As the EEP holder is stating they are looking for a place where a new group of elephants can be housed. Coming weeks decision will be taken.

So the group will not be integrated in a another social unit.
Who knows which opportunities are there for housing a new group of EM? Who knows where in Europe are they building for a social and breeding group of EM? What are the plans of Noah's Ark Zoo Farm? Other ideas?

Noah's Ark are supposed to be building( but I don't think it has actually been started yet) a very large Elephant complex- it has been variously stated it would be for 'rescue' elephants from European zoos ( I suppose this Emmen cow/calf subgroup could be deemed as such, given their need for rehoming), or 'a bull and three females'. In other words, evidently there is no set decision about what elephants will be kept and they will take what they can get. However as you may be aware, Noah's Ark is not a traditional zoo and is still something of an 'outsider' in the Zoo world-so the question is, would the EEP sanction such a move? Also there is the delay timewise also.

The elephants will be transfered to Osnabruck next year.

Does that mean the African herd is being transferred elsewhere? Or are they building a separate enclosure for the Emmen group?

Rumours are that 0.2 africans are moving to france (Paris is mentioned), 1.0 to Vienna and 0.2 to a zoo in Italy...

Not Paris, but France

24.12.2012 0,1 Asian elephant born in Hannover, Nikolai x Farina

I´ve added up the known changes to the both elephant zoo populations in Europe in 2012:

LA (african elephants)
- 2 surviving calves out of 3 born (1 stillborn)
- 4 deaths
= minus 2 animals for the zoo population

EM (asian elephants)
- 9 surviving calves out of 15 pregnancies (2 stillborns, 1 dead in uterus, 2 killed by unexperienced mother, 1 euthanased after mother´s death)
- 8 deaths
- 2 imported from Asia (captive born)
- 2 returned to circus
= 1 animal more, zoo population is stable with a slight increase

Asian cow Angele (10) in Budapest ist pregnant, due in May or June 2013.

Miry und Betty were moved from Osnabrück to Zoo Safari Park in Fasano, Italy, on Dec 14, 2012.

Today, african elephants Sabi (26) and Matibi (14) arrived at Plaisance (Toulouse) from Osnabrück.

So Tutume (13) is the last elephant at Osnabrück.
