What does your user-name mean?

Tigris as in Panthera Tigris( scientific name of the tiger)

115 is the address of a house that My Mom used to live in in India.

What a highly insensitive thing to say. That could bring up some serious supressed memories, dude.

~Thylo:cool:

The guy is special forces. I am sure he gets questions like that all the time and has thick skin. Every boy dreams of being special forces and going on covert missions to kill baddies. I am curious if the Dutch special forces get as much action as the Mongolian navy or if they are in active deployment.

That is so cool! I thought that because I was 'special' I could join the special forces. Turns out that it doesn't work like that for some reason....

Have you ever killed anyone? Have you been on any cool missions?

Top secret !!!!
But I am allowed to say that we went for example paracute-jumping in the south of France ;)

Not to be jingonistic here but he is ex-special forces during a time of relative peace from a small EU member. I don't see why the EU just cuts the pretenses, it would save them money to completely eliminate their military's (they aren't even mission ready as is) and just cut the US a check for defense purposes every year.

how do you turn a "what does your user-name mean" thread into a "hoo-rah aMERica! - what everyone wants to be, because hoo-rah and so forth" thread?

Well, to be fair, I did turn it into "every action movie lover's wet dream thread".

I think there may be ethical issues involved n doing that isince the EU has very high standards on human rights abuses for example and the philosophies of the United States regarding behaviour in war time might not fit comfortably with the views of the majority in the EU.

Guess the reason for my name ;)

I decided on Brum because I'm from Birmingham and if you're from the UK and live in Birmingham people call you Brummies. I (for some unknown reason) decided that I would be known as Brum. It no longer seems such an inspired idea but I'm sticking with it.

So.... not because you look like a yellow car? :p

I think there would be concerns that the US Army would not necessarily represent the philosophical ambitions of the European Union or its members. Not to mention leaving the continent undefended in the event the US needed its armed forces for its own defence (or, for that matter, was at some future time the army that was threatening Europe!*). Why do you assume the US Army would defend Europe better? Actually, let's not get in to that.

Vogelcommando puts it pretty well I think.

*this reminds me of the scene from classic sitcom Yes, Prime Minister where the PM is enquiring about the Nuclear Deterrent - he asks if it would protect us from Russian attack and Sir Humphrey patiently informs him that the bombs are to protect us against the French.

"But they're our trusted allies!"
"Well, they are now, but they've been our enemies for most of the last 500 years..."

If we're still talking about name meanings, mine is elephant (favorite animal) in Spanish.

Would you believe me if I said that isn't me? :p

Seriously though, living in Birmingham I must have stumbled across that car at least 7 times* in various locations. Most surreal was seeing Brum, a police officer and a lollipop lady burst into song outside the museum! :D

*For those who are unfamiliar with Brum the car, it's a kids tv show.

And the reason for your name? Hmmm.... Could it be because you love tea and your name happens to be Dave? I may be completely wrong though... ;)

Got to be one of the most stupid comments I have ever seen on the forum,I know I for one would never live in a country,in which the USA provided its defence having seen the standard of what they sent to man their bases in the UK!

I concur - your comment is not just blinkered and jingoistic but downright insulting to nations that frankly have been sorting out their own military and security issues whilst America was still a newborn!
