We’ve got some very exciting news! Finally, a new family of gorillas are to move into the Palace of the Apes! This enclosure has been vacant since Djala and his family made the ground breaking journey to Gabon to live free in the wild. Since they went we have been making alterations to the enclosure and preparing it for the new family of gorillas to move in. Today, Sangha, Oundi and Tebe (three females) join us from our sister park, Howletts. Then, over the next few weeks Kouillou the silverback and the rest of his family will join us. This is very exciting for us and we hope you share our excitement!
We expect that they will be a bit shy at first as they get used to their new enclosure, but they will have access to all three areas; indoors, the glass fronted enclosure and the garden. We predict that the best place to view them initially will be to the side of the indoor quarters. When they feel more confident, we expect they will come into the glass fronted part of the enclosure. Please do bear with us and them whilst they get used to their new surroundings. As you may know well, we do not shut our animals out for viewing purposes, we let them choose where they want to be and when and they are currently settling in very well indoors. We feel that we should give our animals the freedom to make their own choices. This means that sometimes they may not be immediately visible.
Thank you for your understanding and watch this space for more news on the family!
