Port Lympne Wild Animal Park Port Lympne 2013

Port Lympne told me that Zambezi II and Damara are still there and there is no Rufiji at Port Lympne yet. Any idea why their moving to the other park was postponed (or cancelled)?

Jola who did you speak to at Port Lympne.

Zambezi and Damara are for sure at Howletts and Rufiji has moved over. I am a volunteer at Howletts, plus I have also had an email updating me as I adopt the Rhino herd at Port Lympne. So not too sure why they would be telling you different?

Would be very interesting if you could tell us which Rhinos are at each collection now .

At Howletts we currently have Zambezi (m), Damara (f), and Salome (f). Currently Damara and Salome are currently mixed and getting on well, Zambezi is on his own, but is soon to be mixed.

I am not sure on which ones are at Port Lypne currently but will try and find out. Will post as soon as I find out.

Well, I wanted to update my rhinos in Europe website and I was a bit confused because I was missing some rhinos in UK. So I asked Port Lympne via Facebook, got this reply: ... please find below a list of our rhinos presently at Port Lympne:

Arusha, Damara, Kingo, Nakuru, Nkosi, Nyasa, Nyota, Rosie, Ruaha, Rukwa, Solio, Vuyu, Zambezi II, Kissima, Asani

Now I'm more confused than before ...

It could be that is the last list the marketing team had, who deal with the facebook page. But I know for sure that the changes I previously mentioned have gone ahead, and Zambezi, Darama and Salome are the current ones at Howletts.

You would get even more confused if you went by the website, as that says they still have Monduli, Grummeti, and Zawadi, which are the 3 we released to Tanzania last year.

I will let you know the list of the ones at Port Lympne once I get them.

Just out of interested could I have the link to your website?

When were the three rhinos moved to the other park?

Rhinos-in-Europe

PL's Facebook indicates the transfers happened between 10th and 12th September (or at least there were definitely animal transfers happening over that week which was stopping the safari trucks running at points during the days)

Yes that is when the moves happened, not sure on exact days though :)

Shangha, Tebe and Oundi have moved from Kifu's group at Howletts to Palace of the Apes. They made this journey today. Over the next few weeks Kouillou and the rest of his family will be moving over to the Palace too. Here is the official announcement on the facebook page:

We’ve got some very exciting news! Finally, a new family of gorillas are to move into the Palace of the Apes! This enclosure has been vacant since Djala and his family made the ground breaking journey to Gabon to live free in the wild. Since they went we have been making alterations to the enclosure and preparing it for the new family of gorillas to move in. Today, Sangha, Oundi and Tebe (three females) join us from our sister park, Howletts. Then, over the next few weeks Kouillou the silverback and the rest of his family will join us. This is very exciting for us and we hope you share our excitement!

We expect that they will be a bit shy at first as they get used to their new enclosure, but they will have access to all three areas; indoors, the glass fronted enclosure and the garden. We predict that the best place to view them initially will be to the side of the indoor quarters. When they feel more confident, we expect they will come into the glass fronted part of the enclosure. Please do bear with us and them whilst they get used to their new surroundings. As you may know well, we do not shut our animals out for viewing purposes, we let them choose where they want to be and when and they are currently settling in very well indoors. We feel that we should give our animals the freedom to make their own choices. This means that sometimes they may not be immediately visible.

Thank you for your understanding and watch this space for more news on the family!

I'm a bit confused:confused::confused:- does this mean the 3 females from Kifu's group will be merged into Kouillou's group at PL, or did they mean Kifu and the rest of his family?

Any idea who will go in the vacated enclosure at Howletts?

Nope, Kouillou's group will merge with the 3 girls. The enclosure will stay empty for maintenance, no plans yet as I am aware of. As far as I know they are considering various options.

Nope, Kouillou's group will merge with the 3 girls.

Do you know why? My guess would be perhaps because Tebe and Sangha have not bred with Kifu for some while? Oundi is his daughter so I can see that part.
