Prospect Park Zoo Prospect Park Zoo News

How is the status of the Styani red panda in the USA. In Europe none are kept at the moment and historicly only 8 collections have had this subspecies ( ! ).

They're around, just like the Western ssp. I've seen Red Pandas at 6 zoos so far and 3 have has A. f. fulgens and 3 have had A. f. refulgens (Styani). One of those with A. f. refulgens, Cincinnati, also currently has a cub. Based on my limited knowledge and observations, I'd say they are just about as common here as the Western. If ISIS ever comes back out and/or ztl ever makes an American version I'll make sure to look into it for you if I remember.

The zoo has added 3.0 Demoiselle Cranes to their collection. I do not know where they are on-exhibit, though.

- They are mixed in with the Tufted Deer. I saw the trio on my visit last weekend. I will post a trip report over the weekend.

I was unaware they held that subspecies.

So is that the boa they keep in that puny mixed enclosure?

Boa constrictor imperator I believe. I am not 100% sure, but thats what I think it said.
