Let's say that they do, when Suci died there was no drama what so ever and people on social media didn't seem to care at all. I wonder if non zoo nerds would actually care if they sent Harry away.
To keep the hoofstock and birds from wondering near the lions and possibly falling in the moat. Nearly the entire barrier was covered with the dirt wall all except the last 15 ft where the waterfall is. It took the thrill out of the predator and prey theme but it definitely was a smart move. I'll take a picture today and post it.
This doesn't make sense. Not only does it slice someone's chance of seeing Harapan one last time in half, but also there are two enclosures, why not just give the hog one and Harry the other?

I have no idea if they rotate them or not. It's just a guess since the river hog had the large Yard, which makes no sense. It is a little reasonable because Harry now has full access to both the private yard and the left yard. And how does this ruin someone's chance of seeing him.

Just for the heck of it, what do you think they will make of the blue tubes? Maybe a holding for real trees, or the first step of making fake ones?
The pvc wouldn't be my first option to make trees with concrete. Not the right environment for fiberglass with all the debris flying around. Since there are water tanks under the “savanna" and there's a manhole cover in close proximity, it is either a shutoff, cleanout or more drainage. They're spaced too far apart for a fence. Assuming there's stone and geotextile fabric for drainage and retention, would be the safest choice. The height seems to be staying where it is currently with the stacked stone. They will probably plant more and add hot grass to keep the hoofstock on their side.

I got to work inside and behind the scenes in Africa today. The meerkat exhibit will be 5 times larger than what I expected. For those who have been there can imagine this but it is about the size of the little and African penguin exhibits combined. On the left side of the walls there will be a crawl in den. And on the back side there will be a viewing window for when the meerkats are indoors.
As I stated on my 'Africa' photo, the hippos are being pushed back until 2016 so the zoo can raise more money for a better exhibit. The wild dog and meerkat exhibits will open in August.

Here's some updates since the last 3 weeks:
Africa
-The extra added rock wall is now covered in grass and small foliage.
World of the Insect
-The zoo has a new amphibian species. Fire-bellied Newts replaced the juvenile African-helmeted Turtle.
-For the first time ever, I did not see the African Pygmy Geese.
Manatee Springs
-Many of the fish in the snapping turtle tank were taken out. Now it just contains a Black Crappie, and a Channel Catfish (and the turtle).
Jungle Trails
-The Adjutant stork exhibit is going under renovation and they've been off since last year.
Kea Exhibit
-The lower left corner of the flight cage now has a viewing window and new signage has been put up. The entrance to the aviary has been untouched, so it might become a walk tthrough aviary with an outside viewing.

-The Lady Ross's Turaco and Pesquett's Parrot were off exhibit yesterday and the animals to the neighboring Australasia had access to it.
-The Grasslands exhibit was covered up to give some new birds their privacy.
-Even though they've been on exhibit for awhile, signs have been put up for the Blue-breasted Kingfisher, Southern Orange Bishop, and the White-throated Ground Dove.

The reason the storks and peafowl were off exhibit is because the horticulture department couldn't get around to planting the new trees in the exhibit, so today I took care of that and the peafowl should be on shortly.... But not the storks. I cannot give all the details but they will be replaced with more charismatic, cuter, and a much more fun loving species. Hint: they left the zoo about 7 years ago.
According to the zoo's new map, Lorikeet Landing will be called the Free Flight Aviary, and we won't be seeing Meerkats in Africa... there will be Bat-eared Foxes

That's what I've been trying to figure out and I'm really hoping so. Depends, how long does a bat-eared fox stay with their mother? There are kits in Night Hunters right now (born in March) and when the babies get too old they take them out and move them around as encounter animals sso now I'm wondering if those kits will be moved to Africa, and the parents will stay.... sorry for the ramble, but I'm trying to think like mmy home town zoo would.
