It's a shame that giving birth resulted shortened her lifespan but her quality of life since leaving chipperfields must have been incomparable, including being able to rear a calf of her own.
 
Colchester has announced the birth of a giant anteater, born during the night of 2nd december the animal is as yet un-sexed.
 
A male Philippine Spotted Deer has arrived from Chester, and later this year there should be some Cuban Crocodiles.

Any idea where the Cuban crocodiles will be coming from?

It now looks like the Reptile/Amphibian TAG has made some serious recommendations re. crocs in EAZA zoos. C. mindorensis is a new programme, Cuban crocs at Paignton and now Colchester (another C. programme in the making) and breeding C. moreleti at Cotswold.

The Alligator sinensis getting a make over continent-wise ... (alas the 1.2 trio at Rotterdam have not come alive out of hibernation ... nobody quite knows for sure why)! Tomistoma at Dvur and gharial at Praha ....!!!!!

Perhaps at last some long deserved and timely interest in endangered crocs in EAZA zoos. Hopefully, the EAZA Reptile TAG can direct efforts to breed all and C. siamensis (as well). Good numbers of these exist also in EU, but an amalgamation of individuals into breeding groupings would greatly help matters.
 
A pair of Philippine deer have arrived at the zoo the female from Chester and the male from Mulhouse.
The most recently born aardvark has been sexed as a male, the previous two were female, Magic the female born in January is moving shortly to Saarbrucken zoo.
The zoo have sent a pair of lar gibbon and an emperor tamarin to Novosibirsk zoo.
 
2.0 pied tamarins have arrived from Canada, and 0.2 Cuban crocodiles from the Czech republic.
 
L'Hoest's guenon born at the zoo along with their 1st fennec fox and more gelada and mandrill babies, along with a cheetah cub being hand reared.
 
Since it was found out that Colchester's Amur tigress was in fact a hybrid and was sterilised, are there plans to replace her with a new pure bred female? Seems pointless in keeping hold of a genetically important male if he is just going to be a play buddy for a hybrid female?

Where would the female go? This is the problem nowadays, that most collections are wanting to breed there animals and wont take on a hybrid.
 
it will be very hard to separate them- if you saw zoo days yyou would have seen that they pined for each other when they were separated by a mesh slide!
 
They are sooo in love be awful to see them separated, we have watched them from when they were first paired and its been lovely :D also known Annouska since she was a cub at Linton.

Can they take Igor off of Colchester Zoo as he is now technically not part of the breeding programme now that Annouska has been sterilised :confused:
 
Any positive news of the AI outcome in the white rhinos?

What about breeding behaviour ... anyone any quick lines on that? :D

Well Karen,

That sure is good news. It seems that AI and breeding white rhinos is finally paying dividends (allthough sadly it took the import of some 30-45 young white rhinos in the last decade to reinvent the breeding of white rhinos.

I suppose they will now try to move on to the other young female and breed her by AI (what has not come naturally with the old resident bull)?
The sire in the AI attempt was the local bull ..... was it not?

POST SCRIPTUM: The real champs here are the Berlin IZW team that has so diligently worked over the last decade or so to move invasive rhino and elephant reproductive techniques forward into the 21st century .... :cool:
