Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden What's Gnu at the Cincinnati Zoo - 2014

They should use the other side of the building where the restrooms use to be there is plenty of space for a better cat exhibit or any sort of outside add on for Nighthunters.

Today, I heard that the Siberian lynx would hopefully be back on exhibit by the weekend...

Also, one of our younger female giraffes, CeCe or Jambo, was put out in the yard with Kimba this afternoon.... I think we all know what that means!

And here's an article about our latest flamingo hatching:

I heard Kimba became "girlfriends" with them both.

The Grassland exhibit in Wings of the World is back open (4 days ago) but there are no signs that any new birds have been exhibited. In fact 3 Mousebirds, the Hammerkop, and the Barbet are gone.

Wouldn't it be he became boyfriend to both?

And what's the situation with Cincy's giraffes? Is there only room for two or three to be outside at a time? How many do they have, 5 or 6?

Shut up! My brain seems to shut off when I'm on this website and I can't help it:)

They have 6 giraffes with 5 stalls. Currently they are placing all 5 of their females out in the yard and have Kimba stay inside and they rotate them at usually 12pm.

Well, I was just reporting what I saw, haha. Today was the first day I had seen either of the girls out with him, but I'm only here a couple days a week, so.... But that's even better news than I thought! :) Though, I've never seen them rotate at noon.... It's usually around four when I've seen them let Kimba out.

And I always see Kimba out first thing in the morning:D

So, does anyone know if the antelope are out on the savannah yet? I'm going to the zoo this Sunday and would love to know.

They are not and I doubt they will be for awhile. Word on the street is that the zoo doesn't even have them yet. I've been back there and as I was interacting with an okapi (from a distance) the door was open and I could see into the holding. All I saw were ostriches and bongos. If I were you I wouldn't believe this completely though, I've only heard this. Judging from the rate of introducing the birds into the exhibit, my guess is that we don't even have the Crested Guineafowl, they would've been out by now. By the way, see you there:)

I've heard that too... Whether they have or have not arrived, I don't know for sure.. I've also wondered that about the guineafowl as well because the rest of the birds have been added relatively quickly. I know the ostriches had caused some issues, but I wouldn't think that would've had anything to do with it as they've settled down significantly.

And, well, it looks like we'll all be there on Sunday, haha.

What have the Ostrich been up to?

I've never seen this but according to their assigned keepers they are one, being too brave when it comes to them and the wild dogs, and two, they were attacking people along the fence. The zoo solved this solution by adding piles of rocks along the entire perimeter.

Wow, that stinks. Guess I'll have to come back in the fall. Maybe I'll at least get to see Harapan.

I suggest going to see him early. When I visited it was like the first thing I did, as they tend to go inside as it gets warmer out. If he's not there first thing, then wait like 10 minutes or so and go back.

@Moebelle, oh yes I believe I've seen Bronx's Ostrich being very brave towards their wild dogs (obviously the enclosures are neighboring, of course Bronx has a chainlink fence and not a moat or whatever between the two).

To the ostriches their fence is an 8 ft or so rock wall. To the wild dogs, their exhibit is elevated along that same wall, making their fence only a few feet tall, with an additional moat that's 15 ft deep.
