The new lion does seem to resemble shikar , age appearance, shape of eyes etc. Need to go and have a look really.

Sorry for the confusion alfiethetortois, my point was just they're misfortune of big cat introductions or in kadis case reintroduction . The difference was David gill is open about the killed lioness but far from open about Kadi.

Also don't question where the mandrill troop went on their Facebook, they stop you from being able to comment .

That may be because they don't want you to know what happened to them,I know a few people deep in Europe and none of them, know of this group arriving there,I suspect unless somebody that can get the info from zims says what happened to them, all we can do is guess what happened to them, mine is a big hole!!

Looking through some old pictures this lion picture could be Shirkar. We're going again soon so I'll check. The facebook page this morning says the new lion is called Nero. Any ideas?

In other news jag Cubs will be on show from today...

Here is a picture of the new lion that popped up on the facebook page - It's certainly quite young.

The picture I posted therefore was Shirkar  (I did think they looked similar) the whole pride was unsettled and the females weren't going near him on the day I visited (last wednesday) Will try to pop over again and find out some more information.

The use of that strange term 'far into Europe' made me instantly suspicious about their fate. It reminded me of the 'Kadi' Tiger episode. Why not say exactly where, or why they were sent away, given this species always makes a good active exhibit? More fudging- if nothing to hide they should have elaborated a bit more on their departure.

The official story, as ever, is that it would be immoral to steal the arrival publicity from the location "deep in Europe" - though I suspect the more accurate term would be six-foot deep in the part of Europe known as Dalton-on-Furness :p

Was that reason given for the Mandrills also? If so, after knowing it was a blatant lie in the case of the Tiger, I'm surprised it was given in this instance too and would certainly not believe it in this case either.

It was indeed! Both FB pages for SLWAP have had the relevant post scrubbed from existence - quelle surprise! - but here is a link to when the news originally broke on Zoochat:

Also, as it was some time ago,. any publicity at the receiving zoo would be long past now and the destination could be safely revealed to anyone interested enough to enquire now.

As noted above, anyone interested enough to enquire now gets banned from posting on the SLWAP Facebook page!

Yes, I see now that I made a comment at the time. So much going on everywhere I sometimes forget. Oh well... Enough said about this (for now) I think.

Does anyone know anything about Zoopark Zájezd in the Czech Republic...? ;)

Not much - they have a breeding group of Gabon Talapoin but have not heard much about them otherwise.

Where did you hear that? It would be quite the achievement as according to ZTL they received their mandrills in 2011, and the SLWAP ones did not leave until 2013 :p

A zoological information management system... Does ZTL list every acquisition of animals or just when they as a species first arrived?

EDIT: I don't know how many SL had though, so it may not have been all of them!

If they did indeed go there, they should just say so instead of hiding it in a cloak of secrecy. If nothing to hide, it would work more in their favour to answer enquiries than blank them. Virtually no-one they informed in the UK would have any connection with or interest in this obscure zoo in Eastern Europe, so the 'publicity' argument is pretty meaningless.

Indeed - we may have been wrong to suspect the demise of the mandrills, but we are still correct to have questioned the course of events given that the exact same reason for non-disclosure of information (and cited location) had previously been given falsely in the case of the tiger cub.

and indeed, all 4 animals that were left in South Lakes went there.

South Lakes had a group of around 15 individuals when they went out of them... so that still leaves the question of where did they rest go?

Especially with the expansion that is going on. Never mind I'm sure there will be plenty of other exciting species to come.

I messaged slwap about the new lion before there Facebook post about nero, asking age, where he is from etc. The message was seen and it looks like for some reason I'm being ignored.
