Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden What's Gnu at the Cincinnati Zoo - 2015

They still have room on zoo grounds to build something better then this. I think this just a waste of money and way to capitalize on the recent gorilla baby boom here. They deserve better then this. The way I see it this is just another glorified puppy mill.

Thats a little harsh, isn't it? I mean I agree that the outdoor exhibit could use a little work but I wouldn't say its the worst Ive ever seen. The expansion is a step toward the right direction either way you see it.

It seems to be that there are some misunderstandings as to what this project actually entails.... The aim of this project is to convert and renovate the current outdoor enclosure into a versatile, indoor-outdoor enclosure (similar to Columbus' Manatee Coast) allowing the gorillas and colobus monkeys access to the exhibit and providing visitors the opportunity to observe them year round. The moat will be filled in, glass viewing windows installed, and then the entire exhibit roofed over with glass for the cooler months, but are able to be opened in the warmer months.

I understand where you are coming from Sam but me being harsh is only light weight compared to some peoples opinions about here. With that being said building a terrarium around a outdated exhibit doesn't make it no better. We were bamboozled on the idea of Night Hunters and we all know how that came out remodel building with the same cramped outdate exhibits. I wish for the best for the zoo but the way they manage money here leaves me confused some times. At lest I don't make promises about how big our new exhibits going to be :) Moebelle

Changes from today:
1. A Grey Rat Snake was added to where the Southern Copperhead used to be in Manatee Springs
2. The main polar bear exhibit is going under a large or semi-large renovation.
3. The White-handed Gibbons are back outside with Lana the orangutan. They will apparently be rotating indoors and out with Henry.
4. The indoor Lion-tailed Macaque exhibit has been off limits for the entire summer. Soon this will a permanent home for a new primate species during the warmer seasons but during the colder weather the macaques will reclaim that habitat.
5. The Tri-colored Heron from the former Wetlands exhibit, the Croaking Dove from the finch exhibit, and Layson Teals were added to the South America exhibit in Wings of the World.
6. Oddly Mai-Thai was not out with the other females today.
7. Because the colder weather is now rolling by, that means an Angolan Colobus has been placed outside while the Sifakas will remain indoors for the rest of the year.

Any clue what they might be doing to the polar bear exhibit?

Honestly, they should put a filter to not allow PETA stuff to be displayed. Its all inaccurate. (I know that not all zoos are good but PETA goes too far)

Have been thinking that myself for a few weeks now. Whatever you do don't click on any of their nonsense and drive them up in search engine results. I totally agree with both of you.

I have heard that the bonobos that were transferred from San Diego, Lana and her daughter Kesi, are on exhibit now. Has anyone seen them? The 4 that were transferred from Cincinnati to San Diego have been on exhibit since July 7th. The introductions went well and all 9 spend the entire day on exhibit together.

Quarantine here in Cincinnati. They're putting him through quarantine here and then shipping him out...

Kudu21, do you know his display schedule? I'm flying up to Cincinnati from Alabama on Thursday and I plan on trying to see him Friday. This is a very last minute trip, and I want to give myself the best chance possible of seeing him.
