Oh, I hope not. :( The zoo made an announcement on their Facebook page on October 2nd that he would be on exhibit 9-12:30 daily, weather permitting until he leaves. Did this change?

I would've thought that quarantine meant he wasn't on-exhibit whatsoever but if the zoo says he is, then I guess he is. I wish you the best of luck in seeing him! Everyone should get the pleasure of seeing this beautiful species:)

Here's a tip based on my experience when I visited: get to the zoo for its opening and go straight to his enclosure. If he isn't out right away just wait a few minutes and he'll turn up:)

Enjoy the zoo as well, don't forget to take note of all the other wonderful species present there.

I had heard from staff when setting up an appointment to visit with him that he would be entering quarantine and that staff members would no longer be able to visit him after that point, which I had assumed to mean that he was going into an actual quarantine; however, I, too, saw that post on the zoo's Facebook page a few days later, and, so, I'm now thinking that what they've done is made the entire Wildlife Canyon region a quarantine zone, thus, meaning no outside contact from anyone other than those who are cleared to handle him and the other animals under the quarantine protocol, but still allowing him and all of the other animals access to their exhibits. They did this when introducing animals into Africa as well; they made the entire region a quarantine zone so that they could start integrating the animals more quickly after all of the trouble they had in obtaining them....

That said, you should be good, weather permitting! Those are, indeed, and have been, his on exhibit hours, though sometimes he goes in early, so I'd make him your first stop :) I'll actually be making the trip down this weekend, myself! I'm living outside of Columbus now, so this'll probably be my last time seeing him, as well... At least in the United States, anyways ;) I have a project in the works that just might lead me to Way Kambas in the next few years, if it all pans out.
 
Thank you for the tips! I'm beyond excited. I visited the zoo in summer 2013. We got there right when the zoo opened and Wildlife Canyon was my first stop. I believe Suci was out, and she was actively foraging and walking around. :D

I would deduce the same, that he can still be viewed at those times. If they had already taken him off exhibit without forewarning there would be plenty of disappointed people who had planned special visits to see him before he leaves.

This is really a 'Last Chance to See' for you USA folk. Its a sad ending to the Cincinnati programme with this species, where IMO success and failure have come in equal proportions and in the end just about cancelled each other out. What are other people's opinions on that?

And is there an actual date set yet for Harapan's departure?

I messaged the zoo's facebook page and they told me that there is no specific date (at least not available to the public right now) but he would be leaving "at the end of Oct." Also, that he would not be out if it is below 50 degrees.
 
October 29th will be the last day for anyone to see Harapan with weather permitting of course. Typically he's only out if the temperature is 65°F. Fortunately for the remainder of his time, the temperature will stay steadily around there.
 
Turns out the construction in Rhino Reserve was not actually for Kifaru the new black rhino from Atlanta, but they took the second half of the former Indian Rhino exhibit and combined that with the okapi yard. The okapi will remain off exhibit for the remainder of the year so the new sod can be properly placed.
 
Based on a recent Instagram photo that I just came across, the zoo already has a new rescued manatee. It's another juvenile and it's tail has been clearly altered and sliced into three parts.

Edit: He is a 1-2 year old male that was rescued by SeaWorld for not only his tail injuries but also from cold stress. The manatee tank is currently not able to be viewed by guests for privacy reasons.

Despite the semi-cold weather that would typically not be of regular zoo standards for Harapan to be outside (58°) he will still be able to be seen on his very last day between 11-2.
