For the first time reached 400 bird species within 1 year :)

399. Chestnut weaver
400. Grey-headed silverbill

and a new mammal as well:

48. Heart-nosed bat (African false vampire bat)

After quite a good start to the year (with a trip to Tanzania etc.), I haven't really seen much wildlife recently. But in Plzen Zoo yesterday, I saw a very nice wild mammal which I was really surprised to see:

40) Weasel

I have attached a couple of photos that I managed to take before some noisy children came along and scared it away.

Mammals:
24. Least weasel Mustela nivalis
25. Chinese water deer Hydropotes inermis
26. Common seal Phoca vitulina

403. Goliath heron

403. Slate-coloured boubou
404. Olivaceous warbler
405. Sulphur-breasted bush shrike

Mammals:
49. Woodland dormouse

I take northern black flycatcher of the list. I thought I saw this species here in Baringo last June, but now I have seen more of these birds, I think I misidentified them and they should be juvenile drongo instead... So still 30 to go ;)

the first of November - only two months to go!

HERPTILES:
Hix – 9 Herptiles total (9 Reptiles, 0 Amphibians)

FISH:

Birds
189. Shining Bronze-Cuckoo
190. Great Crested Grebe

Before the end of the year I expect to get only another 10-20 birds, of which half-a-dozen will be lifers. Reptiles should hopefully increase by only two or three, and I expect to see only one more mammal. But I should be seeing quite a few fish.

On the last day of selecting field sites for our research we ended up in a wet grassland area, so while working I was able to see many many birds (and zebra) and I got 3 additions for the year list, of which I am particularly fond of the painted snipe, which was a female that was very showy.

411. Blacksmith plover
412. Ruff
413. Greater painted snipe

Tomorrow will be my last working day in Kenya and Saturday I will be travelling to South Africa :)
