F Katoumi "had" a calf in 2014 (M Kofi born 28/3/2014).

The 2015 entry is a mistake: the M calf Melman is the offspring of F Gaya.

So two mistakes in the one line then? Its a sister not a brother, and to a different calf. mmmm....:(

Went today. They have done some work on removing the walkways but so much of the zoo looks a mess. Even the new picnic area near the giraffes is just hardcore with picnic tables. Just looks messy. Not much progress seen on the new African area or the farm bit.

Meerkats are in the safari bit where the mongoose used to be. Not sure where they have gone? But the lemurs seemed very interested in them and were jumping in and out of their enclosure.

Even strange mix where the Bears used to be now. Manned wolves, tapirs, capybara and spider monkeys. Spider monkeys were visibly hurting the capybara and pulling its ears!

Our new Meerkats out and about digging new homes for themselves at the Uk's most Family Friendly Zoo.

Yet another amazing success story from Safari Zoo.
Twin Colombian Spider Monkeys. Now over 2 weeks old and doing great. It is very rare for twins in Spider Monkeys and these two are doing just fine .

Does anyone know what has happened to Padang the Sumatran Tiger? Had a spontaneous visit a few days ago whilst in the area and he'd disappeared from his cage in the Lion house. On Sunday morning the zoo posted about there four Tigers when they should have had 5 including Padang... Has he moved to another collection ?

I saw on their Facebook yesterday about a new fruit bat walk-through:
Opening Easter Sunday.... the new FREE Flight Bat Enclosure ... go in and have these huge Fruit Bats fly all around you and never touching !

From facebook:

It is with sadness that SAFARI ZOO announce the death of Padang a Sumatran Tiger male who has been resident at the zoo since 2003. He died a few weeks ago after Specialist Zoo Veterinary advice concluded he should be put to sleep by the Zoos Consultant Veterinary Surgeon due to welfare complications arising from his age . Our independent Ethics Committee discussed all the options and had to agree with the specialist advice. The EEP Breeding Programme was informed and Carnivore staff consulted beforehand. In the wild we have never monitored a male tiger past 10 years old as they are not capable of surviving in the wild after that age. So at his age he was likely to be prone to complications. We shall all miss him .
We have held Sumatran Tigers for 20 years here and today we have 4 young Sumatran Tigers at SAFARI ZOO in the EEP and doing an amazing job in educating and raising funds to support our 42 full time staff working in the Sumatran forests everyday protecting the last wild Sumatran Tigers on earth. Padang certainly did his part in building awareness and he gave wild tigers a chance to live wild.

As previously mentioned by myself (even though TLD said I was wrong but that's okay, no problem).

If you actually *read* my post, I said that Farmer was incorrect to say Padang was the tiger involved in the McClay incident - not that you were incorrect about Padang having passed away.

the zoo seems to have gone very quite news wise recently, anyone have any new info surrounding the improvements they have to make for the inspection?

TLD, I was certain that it was actually Padang involved in that incident?? Unless the press have got it all wrong?

What happened to Alisha?

Does the park still have the two male lions Shirkar and Nero on rotation?

Thanks

If memory serves me correctly, Alisha died in a freak accident, choking to death on a piece of meat.

Thanks TLD you confused me with this comment!
