The new exhibit has a 320mq outdoor area (high max: 6 m) and a 1600mq indoor exhibit. I don't know how was the old enclosure (only indoor)

I'm going to the bioparco this afternoon. Are there any questions I can look into?

Plans with giraffe (male reticulated, others hybrids/unknowns)?

Future projects still in the Masterplan (last project: new Orang Utan enclosures)?

I am going to inform us ALL on a question I posed some time ago relating to the giraffe at Bioparco di Roma.

The zoo has now imported 2 female giraffe named Dalia (4) and Acacia (3) from Kobenhavn Zoo. The zoo already holds the Koeln Zoo born Magoma. Plan is to breed from this nice little herd.

Apparently, the remaining unknowns/Rothschild's Gina and Cameron have been transferred out to another - non disclosed - zoo (as reported in a commentary on FB). Be nice to know which one, either in Italy or abroad!

Bioparco di Roma:
-(as said by Kiang in the other thread) are arrived two Red River Hogs from Wroclaw and 5 Mhorr Gazelles born in Rotterdam and Munich, but arrived from Torino
-arrived the Fennec Foxes too (I don't remember if they are new or not, they are near the reptilarium)

Bioparco di Roma:
-It's arrived a couple of Fennec Fox, the female was born in Jihlava Zoo in 2014, the male was born in Athens Zoo in 2015, their area is near the Reptilarium

Are these in the meerkat exhibit that was/is by the entrance to the Reptilarium? What has happened to the meerkats?

And do you know what the "CNR" near the south-west corner is?
it is the primate centre:
ANIMALS
Translated:
In 1984 born the Unit of Primatology and Primate Center of the Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies of the CNR of Rome thanks to an agreement with the City of Rome ( the Zoological Garden and the Museum of Zoology ). In 2004 was inaugurated the new Primate Center designed with the most modern criteria designed to meet the needs of researchers and capuchin monkeys. The center occupies an area of about 820 square meters and includes external enclosures and indoor shelters for monkeys, a service area and an area for visitors to Rome Biopark that can see the monkeys through large windows.

I didn't know about CNR and yes, it seems that there is an aquarium near the elephant house, if I remember the Alien fishes exhibition was in another part of the zoo, maybe where there are the owls or in the Reptilarium

Thanks Chlidonias, that's interesting. That section of the zoo was closed off when I visited so I didn't get to see what was down there.

I don't recall alien fish in the area where the owls were, but possibly there were some in the Reptilarium.

I opted for a visit to Bioparco rather than the Vatican on a recent family holiday in Italy .

I first visited the Zoo over 40 years ago and remember awful primate cages near the entrance ( though remnants of them appear to be still present no primates are here now ) and a big herd of Nile lechwe ( then a rarity , they still have a nice breeding herd) and a closed Reptile House .

I enjoyed my visit . I was impressed with the Chimpanzee outside enclosure , Brown bear enclosure and liked the renovated Reptile House . I think the worst was a pool with 2 grey seals , a second pool appeared to be empty and behind was a closed enclosure which might have housed polar bears .The Elephant exhibit does not meet current standards and the 2 female Asian elephants were separated . There were no very expensive immersive exhibits but most enclosures seemed OK to me .

It is now very much a 'standardised' collection , I do not think there were any species of mammal that cannot be seen in the UK , the same for most of the birds . I am sure when I last visited the collection was much bigger with quite a few unusual species .
