Oh dear! I am afraid I am the bottom of your barrel
I saw Daniel as a young baby because I bunked off from a day in the university lab for a visit (although I think it would have been a couple of weeks after Pertinax saw him). I didn't visit Bristol very frequently during his lifetime there; partly because I was so disappointed that the zoo, which had done so brilliantly with their apes in totally antiquated accommodation, had then built an expensive modern ape house which was much, much worse: remember that the space available for the adult gorilla group outdoors is now recognised as just about adequate for a pair of red pandas!
At the moment I am nearly 300 miles from my slides and negatives, I may have kept one or two images of Daniel, but I don't remember any particularly good ones; I always thought old Samson (his father) was a much more handsome gorilla. I will check and PM you next week.
I do have some decent photos of adult Daniel (and all the other Bristol gorillas of the same era) , but they are prints in photo albums. Will try and do something about it for you (in time).
They do indeed. Kisoro was certainly the catylist for breeding at Howletts after failures with Gugis and the original male 'Kulu' who died an untimely death before they started breeding.
Incidentally 'Mok' and 'Moina' at ZSL were both nearly adult when they died.
