Red-billed choughs fly in Jersey!

The first 'wild living' pair of red-billed choughs in Jersey for 100 years!
From the Blog it appears the five survivors have been 'grounded' back in the release Aviary until better weather arrives. Meanwhile three more young males have arrived as fresh recruits and to even up the sexes. I look forward to the next phase.

Hey Pertinax! Yes, although Prof. Carl Jones was in Jersey, filming a documentary (I'll keep you posted) recently, and his view is that high winds are the only valid reason for keeping the birds in – at least until they learn how to use air currents properly.

He is, after all, the leading expert and pioneer of 'soft release' techniques for birds, and has taken a huge interest in the project, so I imagine there will be some news again soon.:)

Thanks for the update. He is indeed. I guess with the Choughs there has only ever been one previous trial- the one Paradise Park undertook in Cornwall which was eventually unsuccessful. So its all pretty new ground with Choughs.
