20/21 Football Season

Time to revisit predictions...

I think I got the prem winner correct, though my next few places are clearly off...
Most likely have two of the three relegated teams correct, but Villa completely reinvented themselves.

Really tight at the top of La Liga, with the three big teams all within 2 points of each other. Sticking with Barca on this one, it would be quite the statement if they were to win given the talk about them now being a 'mid-table team'.

Ligue 1 is significantly closer than anybody could have imagined/dreamed. Lille giving PSG a run for their money and they might well clinch it. However, I still think PSG have the winning mentality to snatch it at the death. They are three points behind Lille though...

Bundesliga looks done and dusted in terms of winner, but in terms of teams that qualify for the UCL it may well be tight for Dortmund. I reckon they'll make it but only just.

As for Serie A, Inter looks to have won it for the first time in 11 years.

Now for the Champions League, my predictions for next few games:

Porto 1 - 2 Chelsea (Agg. 1 - 4). I reckon Chelsea will have the quality to pull through, particularly given their squad depth in attack. However, I do think Porto will pull one back at least.

PSG 2 - 1 Bayern Munich (Agg 5 - 3). PSG will get through I think - too many missing players for Bayern (Lewandowski, Gnabry, Coman...).

Man City 1 - 3 Borussia Dortmund (Agg 3 - 4). A brace from Haaland and Foden scoring City's only goal of the game.

Real Madrid 2 - 0 Liverpool (Agg 5 - 1). Don't want to rule Liverpool out completely but after the fairly limp performance last week they don't look to be set to turn it around. Who knows though, it is only a 2 goal deficit in theory...

So that would leave the semifinals as RM vs Chelsea and Dortmund vs PSG, and I think Chelsea and PSG would win from them.

What do you think?
 
I also think Chelsea & PSG have a semi final place.

You never know with Man City and Europe, they seem to fail in Europe to a degree compared to their Premier League form. This would not surprise me if Dortmund went through as you say.
Liverpool, (my team) expect the unexpected this season! 12 months ago, we were pretty much the best team in Europe, now in this crazy season we are massively injury hit, but in Europe never write Liverpool off. If we do perform like we did last week against Madrid then yes, its over.

Regardless of the outcomes, when fans can return to grounds, then football will become football again. It is pretty boring without the fans in my opinion.

Even though this talk of a European Super league leaves a sour taste in my mouth, seeing Manchester UTD keep up the pressure on their crumbling neighbours (;)) makes me smile
 
Clubs can still back out of the Super League. Seeing the backlash and the punishment from UEFA, I predict most will do so.

Unfortunately UEFA are pooing their pants at the thought, along with PL, other top european leagues, and big broadcast companies due the the money they will lose out on.

Fact that the top clubs bring all the money into the league and if they walk it will cause havoc for them.

TBH it seems all bluff from everyone, I would hate to see it but can see where the clubs are coming from as they are owned by people that see them as just "companies" there to make them the most money possible.

It’s not looking good, obviously this website has people from all over the world, but as an English person myself I’m embarrassed and disgusted that half of the teams participating are from my country, I’m just thankful I’m not a supporter of these teams.

Just an intention at the moment, not a done deal! TBH the new proposed CL format is just as bad that is due to be announced today.

This maybe the time I stop going to the games.

Those proposed changes are terrible too. I don’t know why they keep meddling with it, literally nobody wants it apart from the greedy owners.
 
I wish we had a system like that of the German teams with at least half of the club owned by the fans. That way we could have a say in the matter - as it stands nobody but the filthy rich owners have a say, and they have chosen to get richer.

As for the 3.5 billion each participating club gets, where is that supposedly coming from? I don’t know many people who will continue to support their clubs if they are part of the 12 (soon to be 15), so where is all this revenue coming in? Sponsorships will be withdrawn if no one watches the games after all.

In the space of a night, the prem has gone from perhaps the best league in the world to one of the worst in Europe. Let’s hope something is done about this, although we can be sure that we won’t be seeing any of the big six teams back in the prem for at least 5 years (if the clubs rejoin, they must start at the fifth tier).

Opinions on what will happen to this season’s UCL? I wonder whether PSG will be awarded it automatically.

The market for the game is far greater in Asia than the UK, and unfortunitely people will still watch it.

It will destroy football kicking the teams out, seems like a bit of an empty threat due to the money they will lose out.

Nothing it will be played out.
 
You may say anything about me, but I think the only problem of the European Super League is there are permanent member. Football teams can become worse or better over time, so it's a bad idea to let teams join every year (just look at Arsenal).

I think the format is actually not that bad and may lead to it being more competitive. Honestly i dont mind changing the Champions league to a real league.

EDIT: I dont realize the fee involved is that huge.

It's not replacing the CL, it is a whole different competition outside of football rules.

And the only thing you have a problem with is the problem everyone has with it, myself included as a Liverpool supporter.

Yes. For me it's just a larger champions league which enable some smaller team to join. and 6 out of 9 teams make it through in group, unlike 2 out of 4 now. Some teams may get a better chance.

There are several other problems with this (let alone the format - nobody wants the CL format changed)

The fact they’re operating outside the federation is completely unacceptable and goes against the principle and heritage of the game.
 
I think people are getting confused with the break away league and the new CL format that was due to be announced today.
